Too much faith is required to answer this question in favor of the Uber option. Nobody other than maybe you and other Uber employees actually know the specifics behind what $1 million in Uber stock actually means, not to mention the lack of a market for Uber stock at the moment, no clear timeline to IPO (though I'm sure it's coming and I'm sure it'll be popular), a rumored valuation which may be justified longer term but has been climbing extremely quickly, and a market environment which is kind of skittish. Keep in mind there's some correction angst right now in the public markets in general, many smaller public tech stocks are in the toilet, and T. Rowe Price just marked down its more questionable unicorn stakes by quite a lot. A lot of the audience here probably just wants to be able to afford a house

With 500k I don't gamble much. Except on my house I guess, but I gotta live somewhere. This is an interesting question though. I'm betting in 4 years we start seeing the beginnings of self driving cars disrupting the market. I just don't know how that will all pan out. The uber CEO seems to take it seriously, which is good but not always sufficient.

you uber folks need to get realistic about how much execution is left. You are yet to turn a profit http://www.forbes.com/sites/briansolomon/2016/01/12/leaked-ubers-financials-show-huge-growth-even-bigger-losses/#238b52865c99 Also investors investing at valuations like $66 billion get preferential terms so if your company ipos at 30 billion they still don't lose any money, read about square's down round. the deck is stacked against employees till you actually ipo and have the money in the bank
