Uber vs Google
Trying to decide between Uber and Google. Same level and TC. Comp is no problem here and identical between the two. ( > median pay) Team at Uber seems very promising. Potentially interesting problems to solve and a lot to learn. Didn't have a lot of team choices at Google. Team still seems good, but the tech stack and services wouldn't be my first pick. Any insights are highly appreciated! P.S. I’ll add more details in a follow up post. Please help me make a decision. Update: Accepted the offer with Google. Team at Uber is great but decided to go with Google due to the rest of the positives at G. Uber initially made a good offer and Google matched it. Thanks for all your responses! Depends on your risk appetite and wlb chocies. I read on couple other posts that Uber is in the middle of moving it's work and projects to India. So depending on scope reduction etc, you need to evaluate.
I left Google to go to uber just a few weeks ago. Only on week 2 of uber so can't say for sure how it is yet lol. If you loved the team at uber I would say go for it. When I left Google I didn't mean to go to uber but I fell in love with the team I interviewed with. Worst case you go to uber, change your mind, and hop right over to Google. I didn't hate Google at all, if uber doesn't work out for me I will just message my old director and ask for my job back.

You can work at Uber enjoying your work and sign on bonus, while doing team match at Google at the same time up to 1 year. If you couldn’t find a good team at Google, keep working for Uber. If you are not happy with Uber, go work for not great team at Google and internal transfer. If you manage to find a great team at Google and you’re very happy at Uber, then come to blind to let us know again, but either choice will be fantastic at least. So I say it’s no brainier.
One of the most profitable companies on the planet or one we aren’t sure will even exist in 10 years. A company with one of the best reputations for software engineering culture, or one known as being toxic as fuck and is obvious as soon as you walk into their Death Star of an office. The decision isn’t hard IMO.
I would’ve been with you had I found a good team match at Google. Unfortunately, timing is everything here. The team at Uber on the other hand sounds too good. Hence the confusion. Thanks for your input!
Makes sense. For what it’s worth I joined an okay team at first, but one of the most attractive things about google for me was that there are a ton of teams to change to internally. I managed to change to an awesome team and am really loving it. YMMV. Good luck with your decision!
uber should have more upside in near future I think. If you are young and needs some flag name on ur resume then go with gg.
Google doesn't have any upside, uber stock post pandemic has a long way to go. Google offer is valid for 1 year post HC (you will need to go through team match again) . I would join uber and worst case go back to google a couple of months down the line.
