Uber vs Google offers
Both for senior (L5 and L5a). For some reason google didn’t match uber’s offer: Uber 203k base, 35k bonus, 715k RSU. TC 417K. Also eligible for refresher this year. Google 195k base, 15% bonus, 580k RSU. TC 367k, but due to front load, first year is around 430k. Google is Google... Uber’s offer is very appealing but I’m not sure about the WLB and company’s future. Going to be a tough decision. Would love to hear from people working at either.

How many YOE do you have? Google L5 is a no brainer. After spending a couple of years there you can try for a L5B offer at Uber or Staff level at some other companies.

If he tried Google after 2 years, he’ll most likely get L5 only or maybe even get down leveled to L4 if one of the interviews is a soft yes. Uber L5A getting downleveled to Google L4 is pretty common. Most people just reject the offer but still.
Please join Google. No brainer. They need a lot more Amazonian to work on their shitty GCP. We don’t need more 996 engineers to break our WLB.

I didn’t work in Amazon or any 996 company, always work at good-WLB companies that’s why I fear. Okay then Please come buddy. Trust me overall Uber is better than Google. Google is the ship of Theseus.

Definitely Google L5. I'm myself moving from L5a at Uber to L5 at G. Getting into L5B is very tough and it depends on a lot of external factors not just your performance. L5 at G > L5a at Uber
As an L5A uber dev sitting at 610k TC thanks to a stock price of $60, Uber is nice. Uber stock is probably going to $80 end of this year. If we make it there *and* I don't get laid off from burning out on my 70hour weeks before then, then I could hit $730k for 2022!

Stay at Google for 2 years and get the front loaded $. After that if you want you'll get l6 offers outside.
I was thinking the opposite. Google will always be there and I can make it again. Especially since no refreshers for 1.5 years, financially it’s bad.
I was a googler. Would say 2 years in google is like 3 quarters in Uber
