Hi, I have offers from Uber and Microsoft. Here are the numbers : Uber : (Bay area) L4, 360K TC (initial numbers) 180k base + 400k stock + 40k joining Microsoft : (Dallas) L63, 240K TC (final numbers) 165k base + 200k stock + 25k joining I don't have issue in moving to Dallas or Bay area. Uber's TC is on higher side but Microsoft is offering 1 level above. Not sure, how much difference level can make in the future. My other deciding factor is WLB, so leaning towards Msft. Looking forward to hear everyone's thought. Current TC : 210K (7 YOE) #uber #microsoft
Uber is too unstable rn
Seriously. I don't know what's gonna come out of this latest downturn, but it's highly possible the news is gonna wind up being bad for Uber employees. They could do fine but there are a lot of pretty serious questions about the viability of their business model. They've been doing this for a pretty long time to be still questioning "can we make money with this thing?"
Iโd vote Uber. doesnโt have horrible WLB especially if your team is good.
What about the level? I am offered the l4 level in uber while Microsoft gives l63. Don't you think this will be an issue while switching in the future?
Microsoft has two senior levels and for you to get to each one of the next levels will be 1.5yrs on average. Think slightly longer term. The concept of WLB is what you make of it. In 5 yrs, you do not care about making more money and priorities are around family, go for MSFT but do not go there cause it's a higher level
I would stay away from the taxi company.

Fam also think about what kind of life you want to live. Dallas and Bay Area are very different places and will give you different lifestyle options
Texas = no state income tax and lower cost of living so what the money gets you is pretty similar I would chose Microsoft
Yeah but the housing market is crazy and rent would be the same as Bay Area ๐
Rent a 2 bed 1 bath town house in Richardson for $1100 . Donโt go for private apartments, find good local landlords. Texans are kinder in general and more generous in terms of rental agreements. My rent is an exception though, not a norm. You can find more than a few exceptions if youโre not trying to get some hot spot
Uber. Donโt come to Microsoft. We donโt need amazon toxicity.
In addition to state taxes, make sure to consider refreshers/bonus after the first year. MS Level 63 target is 15% annual bonus and $32K annual stock awards (vesting 5% a quarter over 5 years).
Really just 32k for 5 years. That is pathetic
Bloomberg, it's annual so it would be 32k a year. It just takes 5 years to fully vest. Most refreshers are 4 year vest. But the assumption here is you get 32k a year barring any performance issues.
Whatโs the Uber offer breakdown?
