Currently live in New York. Which area do you prefer in terms of quality of life and expenses? They gave me an option to relocate. #amazon #tech
Neither 😸
Life situation and interests?
Holy shit 100% New York. Block anyone that says Bay Area please omfg. Being an Amazon eng in Bay Area labels you as the biggest broke loser of Silicon Valley.
There are some nice areas with great weather weather, stuff to do, and schools if OP has any kids.
Nyc>>>>>>>>>>>>
Bay Area sucks if you are young.
New jersey 😂😂
Don't hate!
If you go to NYC your best bet is to live in jersey city. Get close to the path station. It’s a lot cheaper than the city. Hoboken, etc is also good. NYC in general is outrageously expensive. $5K per month for a small apartment is the norm if you can find one. Being close to the path station lets you just jump in a train and the next stop being in the city. (Used to be a quant working in Wall Street area for years and a life long resident of the area)
NY hands down, especially if you are young, single, and male. I spent the last 5 years in the Bay Area not caring about social life or dating, so it’s been fine for me here. As soon as I started caring, I realized how ASS the Bay Area is. Meanwhile my friend in NY is legit going on 5 dates with 5 different people and ending up sleeping with at least 3-4 of them.
Wasn’t it 375k before?
Yea thought I should probably post my average TC instead of my first year TC.
Can you post breakdown? Amazon should have pretty much identical salary in year 1 and 2, and possibly a bit lower year 3 and 4 (because of stock appreciation assumption). The sign on bonus is a lie, since you get less stocks.
