I like the car a lot. I test drove it and its totally different. However, I rent a house and I have charging now (110V outlet) but I am single and I might move anytime! So, I will not spend any money on getting 240 volts or anything and might loose it when I move! Charging at work doesn't seem practical as it is slow and less chargers for the number of people. I was thinking to rely on superchargers as primary source (go grocery shopping and charge). Another option I was thinking is Honda Accord Touring (fully loaded) I always wanted a Tesla but last thing I want to do is buy a 40k car and sit 50 minutes at some public charger. Should you own Tesla in Bay Area on public charging? Honestly, charging is the only thing making me question my decision but that's like the main thing to run it lol
it’s totally viable in the bay. Super chargers are everywhere and you can charge when you get groceries.
I have been doing it for the past 3 years. A few apartments has options now. I survived on super chargers. With WFH, and less commute, it’s easily doable. I now charge max twice s month while I shop at the Target. Wait, you already have an option to charge at work? Not a problem at all then. Go for it. You are welcome.
Nice. Are superchargers crowded? i.e. You not getting spot during busy times, specially at popular Supercharger locations like the ones next to grocery over say Superchargers next to restaurants?
Not bad, many folks in the Bay Area have million dollar studio size homes with 1910s charger ports. We are the homeless folks here, relying on public chargers. You will be fine.
In your current situation no issue. As long as you can trickle charge you should get 50-60 miles over night. That should be fine for 90% of peoples commuter use cases. Then you also have an option at work and superchargers to use every month. If you don’t have a garage or ability to charge overnight then yeah it’s less convenient.. but still doable as long as you can get to a charger at least twice a month which is definitely doable in the bay..
BMW 330e. Best of all worlds
It is a shitty car.
Why?
Get the model 3 Performance
Do not make the jump to electric without home charging. Anyone who says otherwise is clouded by the Tesla allure. Many folks, even in the bay, are going back to gas powered cars because of this. Google it and you’ll see. I would not recommend spending that kinda money on an accord, but you could get a certified pre-owned with no miles on it for like 30k.
I agree on Home charging part. However, why not spend money on Accord? The depreciation is pretty low on Accord but I plan to keep it for 5+ years. Even if it depreciates its fine. Is Accord Touring not a good car? Even pre-owned with low miles is very expensive that going for used 2018 or 2019 Accord is not making sense over buying a new one.
I think the touring is an excellent car. Was just saying that a certified used might save you some money but in these difficult times, where cars are hard to get, I wouldn’t be too worried if you plan to keep it a while and just buy new. The touring even has plenty of driver assistance systems that close the “autopilot” gap in my opinion.
