#severance #layoff Trying to find when is the best time to inform the potential new manager and if he can help in any manner. I believe, the PIP is a result of me asking the existing skip level manager (my previous direct manager) to take lead on a customer issue that was pending for too long. Keeping in mind that this skip was my direct manager few months ago when he rated me exceeds, then put my present manager to task for PIP on me. My message was, in support of customer obsession to help the customer if he was in a better position to. He read it as do it yourself. Disappointing part is he was a colleague and then my manager in last 4 years. And I drank the customer obsession and have backbone Kool-aid and asked genuinely for help. What I got was scrutiny few weeks later.
PIP is part of working at Amazon. Ownership is a leadership principle. In other words you can’t say “that’s not my job” when it’s your job to be PIP’d.
All I can say that,, you are not alone. Can you share more details on How long was dev plan? How was feedback during dev plan? How long is PIP. Also, there are tonnes of opportunities outside. Let me know if we can help.
Sorry exceeds rating in April2021👻👻. Sr. Solutions Architect role.
Could I dm you about the role?
Sure
I like how you did not need to add anything else in the description.
Frugality
What about the rating in 2021? Did you change teams?
Sorry rating was for 2021
Nice joke. But a bit old
I have no info. I was put under scrutiny for last 4 weeks. Got another offer within Amazon and on notifying my manager, I was told I am under PIP.
When you enter PIP it’s an official plan and options that you get. When you are in Focus your manager may or may not choose to let you know
Thank you for the info. This is the first time I am digging into this. Sounds like I am in focus but now I cannot take an offered role within.
Correct. Use this time to find a job outside Amazon or prepare for a shitty two to six months and your meander can still put you in PIP.
You are probably not piped. You are in focus. I have seen people put on focus when they try to change teams as a way to hold people on the team. Pivot follows focus, where you can decide to take severance or take on pip with very low chances of keeping your job. You can escalate to HR if you feel it is unfair and take on your manager head on. The other option is to work with your manager to figure out the best path forward.
Is there any hope from HR? Based on stories here, it does not look likely. Also my PIP feels like the result of unwanted backbone. I understand backbone is for other teams. With your manager any interaction can lead to PIP.
Can you make sure if you are in Focus or Pivot? If it is Focus, nothing to worry about. Just work well with your manager. If it is Pivot then HR is your best bet.
Which org ?
It doesn’t matter. if someone say he used to work in Amazon, I would be more careful and avoid his team
