Underwhelmed with Google interview process!

Before I started my job search Google was my first choice for an employer. I tried and didn’t make in 3 yr ago and was happy when the recruiter approached me back in December. (I had made it all the way but failed HC) Since then the process has been ridiculous 1. The phone interview was meh. The interviewer said you have already done this before and passed. So wasn’t too interested in interviewing me. 2. My recruiter told me it will take 2 weeks for the initial interview feedback but didn’t hear from anyone for 2.5 weeks. Apparently the interviewer had left G and it took them (G) another 2 weeks to find a replacement and there was no initial phone interview feedback for almost 5 weeks. 3. Eventually they told me they want to move forward and they are going to find a team for me first. Another 3 weeks. 4. Another recruiter change - front end to backend. The new recruiter contacted me fine but was very lukewarm in his approach. He gave me a very small salary / tc number and told me that’s their baseline. Am I ok with that to proceed with. I said fine - I have come so far, might as well!! 5. Finally a date for v-on-site. The recruiter just sent an email once about what to expect in different interview rounds. No more contact/ follow up from the recruiter. No names of the interviewers, no upfront information about each interview in the loop 6. One of the interviews in the loop got postponed and I was told just 15 min before. There was no mention of rescheduling- I had to ask the RC. Recruiter is completely MIA at this point. 7. While most interviewers were fine, they seemed to be bit lost. Multiple interviewers asked me the same questions over and over, finally I stopped telling them that this question is covered already. 8. One interviewer was a bit nasty and said I have read the notes and that you have failed this interview before when you tried. Ouch! Overall quality of interviews, interviewers and recruiters seem to have gone down! Edit : contrasting this with Amazon and Facebook. The recruiters were really on top of their game, actually interested in getting me through the process. Google recruiter seems like they were doing me a huge favor. Very lax attitude.

How entitled candidates have gotten now. Interviews used to barely get a response for 90% of them > Will take 2 weeks for the initial interview feedback but didn't hear from them for 2.5 weeks Do you realize that the whole company of Google doesn't revolve around a POTENTIAL future employee? 😂

As opposed to FB and Amazon - I got the response out in a day 24 hrs. It’s initial screening for gods sake to determine whether the candidate is worth bringing over for the on-site. The interviewer hinted that I was a safe bet to be brought on-site because I had cleared my on-site previously- how much time does this whole machinery take? Btw 24 hrs turnaround with square too. In fact 90% of the time, I got the response to my phone screenings within 24 hrs.

This square person seems to be a recruiter who thinks what op mentioned is normal and sets a good benchmark for other shitty recruiters/ overall hiring process

It seems like your interview feedback is not providing a strong signal. Recruiters try to convert most of their candidates, as there are incentives. So recruiter responding slowly most of the time means he/she's trying hard to move forward with your application but your packet isn't strong enough. I've had experience where it took only two weeks for the entire process. Everyone has different experience, nothing wrong with the company.

Intuit vxzpa OP Jun 6, 2021

That’s a possibility- but there is no communication from the recruiter at all. It’s just literally day and night with my FB experience. In the initial phone screen the interviewer hinted that I had cleared this round before , so it will be a positive outcome. And the interviewers in the loop were very ill coordinated. They were asking the same questions- felt like there was no coordination in the background to really vet the candidate.

That sounds like an annoying process, sorry man. That’s definitely not the norm but seems like a series of bad mishaps. You for sure have a right to be annoyed and irked. But i will say some of these points you’re being quite nitpicky. If they said they’ll get back in two weeks but took an extra half week that’s hardly anything to complain about

Intuit vxzpa OP Jun 6, 2021

Oh it was extra 3 weeks. Total turnaround time was 5 weeks. At 2 weeks I followed up and emails ended up in netherworld. After 4-5 days someone contacted me that the recruiter left which was about 2.5-3 wks. Still no update on the phone screen. At the end of 5 weeks is when I got the results

I interviewed recently took only 1 week to get verbal offer. I think it’s based on your interview performance.

Intuit vxzpa OP Jun 6, 2021

Hmm. Potentially. That doesn’t explain the 5 weeks delay to respond back. They could have outright rejected then. And I have offers from FB and Amazon, so can’t be too shabby performance and will be choosing FB.

OP you say "The interviewer hinted that I was a safe bet to be brought on-site because I had cleared my on-site previously- how much time does this whole machinery take?" You didn't clear HC though? So you didn't clear the onsite interview last time.

Intuit vxzpa OP Jun 7, 2021

Yes. Depends on your interpretation. The interview feedback was positive so cleared that step of the on-site. And moved to HC.

Morgan Stanley tMkb85 Jun 7, 2021

That's not my interpretation, that is the google process. If you don't completely bomb the onsite interviews then they move you to HC. Going to HC only means that you weren't completely terrible. So no, you didn't clear onsite interviews at Google.

Goldman Sachs WowGS! Jun 7, 2021

Yes, this is correct.

Intuit bossbaby2 Jun 7, 2021

What’s your point here? Did you make it in Google?

Amazon tuktuk10 Jun 11, 2021

Why are you so salty🤣 congrats on your other offers. If Google matters that much, then LC hard and give it a go after 6months. I had pathetic experience with FB for an E4 Role in US and we had visa issues at the end and it got blocked. During my Amazon interview, my previous recruiter moved out. Whereas I had a very pleasant experience at G last week. So you see, it’s just happens once in a while and judging by the scale at which these companies work, I’m not surprised. Don’t judge them for one mishap, FB/G/Amazon interview processes are all pretty smooth and exciting IMHO

Goldman Sachs hziqnepqbx Jun 12, 2021

OP is definitely salty, delusional and entitled. Look at the dude's reply above to factually correct Morgan Stanley- "So, what's your point? Did you make it to Google?".

Amazon tuktuk10 Jun 12, 2021

No wonder he got selected in Amazon & FB😂 He’ll excel at Amazon TBH
