Unexpected Layoff/Fired (M.S.)

I was laidoff few days ago on July 31st in the most surprising way. My superior and I had a meeting schedule early morning on that day for an over due annual review. The moment I joined the conference call I noticed something wasn’t right because HR manager was also in the the call. My superior started with “after reviewing where the company’s headed to, we no longer need your role effective immediately.” Few hour later, I received many messages from my ex-colleagues in another regional office with question marks. By evening, I learned that the company is downsizing and laying off from other bigger offices- Shanghai and London. Anyways, is this how layoffs work? No heads-up or at least a rumor? The entire process was less than 5 minutes- returned keys, access card, computer, sweep my personal items from desk into a box and I was out the door. I was so numb I has to sit in my car for about an hour to process it in my head. I’m devistated as I have my wedding coming up in few months and my financial plans wont work out if I were to remain jobless. My last question is- I have a job interview soon which was arranged BEFORE the layoff (I didnt expect a layoff, I was continuously looking for opportunities to another department). In this case, should I mention that I was laidoff? Or should I keep this quiet?

First get the job and then don’t tell them

Legal reasons? Bullshit. It’s not illegal to give someone more than 30 minutes notice.

It’s not sad. The reason it’s done that way is because it’s bad for morale if they drag on for months and people are like “Did you hear that they laid off Jack? Booohoo 😢😭🤧. I wonder who’s next.”

Consider it as blessing in disguise. Look at the bright side and keep pushing. I'm sure you'll find up somewhere nice.

TLQKF, It's important for you to remember, that almost every time, when someone gets laid off, it's a business decisionand has nothing to do with the performance of the individual. Technically, this had nothing to do with you, or your performance and you are not defined by this setback, but by how you will pick yourself up, persevere, and win in the end. I've been laid off once, it sucks, but I think it made me more resilient and experienced. Stay strong! Best of luck!

It’s a German company. Not tech sector.
