Unhappy with GS PWM want to move to NYC

I have a corporate FP&A background and was a finance manager prior to GS (been here 8 months). Took the role at GS thinking it would be cool but im not happy. I want to move to NYC and continue in FP&A but have had a hard time finding a job. what type of job titles should i be looking at (sr analyst/manager?) with 4 YOE and state school MBA, and salary expectation?

FP&A in Asset and Wealth Management (the umbrella for PWM) is not going to get you much money. Focus on applying to CIB roles in FP&A, Associate or Senior Associate roles (4 years isn’t enough for VP). CIB pays the most at most banks. You can expect between 100-110 base with a 10-20% bonus depending on bank performance that year.

Why are you unhappy? Just want to sympathize you. I am unhappy in my current role too.

I was on a FP&A track and got my MBA. Was a Finance Manager at a healthcare company prior. My buddy said that if I switched to GS PWM it could really add value to my resume as a brand. I did that and now that I’m here I feel like PWM is not for me and I want to learn actual technical skills. Now I don’t know what to do or where to transition, but I do know I want to go to NYC. My next move is extremely important as I will have to stick with it for 4-5 years. People have told me consulting but it’s difficult to break into unless you’re from a target school. Any other ideas?
