Unity Software to lay off 1,800 employees, or 25% of staff https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/08/unity-software-to-lay-off-1800-employees-as-part-of-a-corporate-restructuring.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard
Damnnnn
That's huge, they already did 5 rounds? So only less than 50% left?
Fuck unity. The whole reason unity went on a hiring and shopping spree was to look good for the ipo. Before that, unity was doing just fine and had a good pool of people who worked on cool stuff. Costs were lower and they could have come up with a different business model to sustain themselves for that particular scenario. Once management and investors wanted their payout however, it was no longer about the product. Just fatten it up, buy up companies to show ‘promise’ and get paid. New management isn’t any different. Their task is to make unity ‘lean’ again to drive the stock price up and then rinse and repeat. Nothing has changed.
