I'm currently interviewing for a position at Unity in Bellevue. I wanted to know if Unity offers flexibility with remote. Is this something I can negotiate? Anyone else had the chance to negotiate remote option? I have a competing offer from Tesla if that helps with the negotiation.
358 is correct. There is “true” remote, which isn’t an option if you are attached to an office when you’re hired. Then there is “casual” remote which is at the manager’s discretion. The difference is that the second option requires that you live within commuting distance from the office, regardless of how frequently you actually come into the office.
Keep your options open. some open positions got canceled this week.
Yeah depends on hiring manager, for a lot of teams it wouldn't be a big deal at all to be remote. But, if you're not going to be in the Seattle area, it will likely result in a lower TC. You might be better off finding out how much your team will require you to be in the office, because maybe they don't care at all, in which case you can be effectively remote but still have the Bellevue TC.
Definitely negotiate. If the position is high priority enough then they would definitely consider. Managers don't care, but the higher-ups are trying to curtail WFH which doesn't make sense when most teams are distributed across NA and EU.
Generally competing offer doesn't make much of a difference. It really depends on the hiring manager and the team. Most teams I work with are spread over multiple locations.
Casual remote is a good term. Just ask at this point it's up to the manager. I don't think unity is going to force anyone back in the office
ummmm i think remote is ok
My spouse has an interview coming up, can I DM you?
Depends on the team. If you’re hired connected to an office you aren’t remote, but you also aren’t necessarily required to come in on any schedule unless your team/manager decided on it. I’d just ask the hiring manager.
