Hi Guys, Thanks for opening this post and wish you have a good day. I have an upcoming data engineer interview@Amazon, the location is Seattle and the team is prime video. From the JD, I can see it's looking for SQL/Redshift&Python. Does anyone know the structure of the onsite interview? What will be asked for the each round? Maybe something like 2 sql rounds, 2 modeling and 1 bq? Will the interviewee give a data set and ask you to model it? I am not sure what to prepare for now. From the first 2 round phone interview(1 bq and 1 sql), I think I need to focus on sql/data modeling? If so, how should I prepare? Thanks! #career #tech
How was your phone screen experience?
I just went through some sql questions with the giving data set, really easy and remember to know some date function.
Thank you. I was told I will be having two technical phone rounds. Any more suggestions?
Hi Guys, I just want to share my experience about my interview at Amazon for a L5 data engineer position since I don't see a lot of similar interview experience for the data engineer role. I got 2 rounds phone interview and 1 final round virtual onsite. YOE: 3 Timeline: 2/28 --- first round talking about the position with hiring manager for 2 leading pricinple questions. 3/18 --- second round phone interview talked about sql and 2 leading pricinple questions. 4/9 --- virual onsite interview,5 rounds with the team. Virual onsite 1 round with a data engineer talked about ETL pipeline design, basically about a large dataset and how do you determine what kind of technology you want to use to handle it and why. 2 round with a data engineer talked about sql performance tuning, you need to understand how to use things like explain plan, index etc. 3 round is with hiring manaer, 3 sql questions first then 2 leading pricinple questions. 4 round with a sofeware engineer talked about a debugging problem, which is just find some specific error message from a text file and sort based on the pharse's frequency. 5 round with a data engineer for data modeling, which is design a fact-dimension model, how to design primary key and how to handle partial data and 2 leading pricinple questions. Basically, 1 hour for each round and 50% time for technical question and 50% for bq. BH: go back and search Amazon leading princle bq questions, not hard but you definitely need to prepare and practice for a while. The over all experience is good, everyone is kind and nice. I think I did well except the 2&5 round. In my current position, I mainly focus on designing ETL pipeline and don't have much experience on performance tuning/data modeling, so those 2 rounds I didn't do well. I have't heared back from the team and will update if I have any updates.
Good luck π
Thanks for sharing. Hope you make it!
