What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Hi Blind Community, thank you so much for all the advice on my previous post here [Blind] Check out this post! Pregnant and Super Stressed.. Don't know what to do (Layoffs) https://us.teamblind.com/s/aHdommGL A lot of the comments, however harsh, got us thinking that we aren't thinking straight about this situation. Although the offer only has 130k base, it's still better than zero and we had to take it. We are going to struggle financially for a year, but this is not the time to stress physically, especially because it affects the baby. We are not going to think too much. Worst case scenario we'll sell the house in the US at a loss and just move back to India. Thank you all for your support. #layoff
Thanks for the update - wish the best for you and your family
Good luck 🤞
I didn’t originally see your initial post, but I just read through it now. I’m so so sorry you’re going through all that. My advice is you need to sell the car and buy a cheap used one that you don’t need to finance. You can get a reliable old car for $5-10k. Rent out your place in India. Cut way, way, way back on all expenses (only essential expenses, pack your lunches, etc). And get the money back from the family friend. Have your husband take the lower paying offer. And then try not to worry about anything too much. Pregnancy is hard and stressful enough without everything else. Good luck.
Please let me know which reliable used cars for $5-10k. Thanks.
Trend micro i bought prius for 10k.
Cool story sis.
I honestly don’t think your situation is that bad. You have a 1.35 mil house, so your mortgage payments + property tax are 8k/month max??? If your husband takes the 130k base job, he can afford the house payments alone. Then, you can just cover living expenses with your salary (which I assume is at least 130k as well given you’re a swe). If you live cheaply, you can still save a decent chunk even with a 1k car payment.
wow, what a train wreck of financial mismanagement. A couple of SDE2 and think they can play a big spender game. When I was an SDE2, I eat Costco chicken, cook my own rice, rent a $600/mo house, and buy a used $5k Honda.
Curious to know where you're now
Was this in 1982?
The broke couple with the fancy car costing a grand a month? Yeah 😂. Wonder what’s more important now. Some ppl need to stop living a life beyond their means and tune out what relatives and the toxic aunties back home have to say.
I would edit your post and remove the bit about your friend at the end. It sounds super petty, as if you’re mad because they never told you personal financial details such as what they offered on their house and such. Wtf?
Not only that but it's completely irrelevant, it's like me saying what I had for lunch in exciting detail.
I’m glad your husband picked up a job. Btw, I think you guys need to sit down together and on a spreadsheet track all your monthly expenses including food. Because when the baby comes, there will be even more expenses. Go collect your debts and don’t give any more money to family. Who cares if it looks bad. You should build your emergency fund and have 1 years worth of living expenses.
No one needs relatives who just takes money and not give it back. They can all go to hell
TLDR
Living out of their means. Poor savings and poor financial decisions. Husband laid off while wife is pregnant. Talking bad about friends and parents for no fault of their own. Didn’t want to take an offer of 130k base because it was too low but now realising that 130k > 0k.
