Got an "offer" from a UK based leading Investment Bank - (role based in Scotland, LCOL). HM round also went well and was cool. Now during salary negotiation, he offered 40K GBP, which I declined as it was super low, so he offered 50K GBP. I said OK and then asked for Relocation/Joining or at least Economy class Flight Tickets as I am based in India. He rudely said to me, "I am in position of power. I have 5 more candidates like you. If you don't like, walk away. You are very greedy. It was a mistake from me to offer you even 50K." very rudely. I was stunned and upset. I just said ok and wanted to end the call ASAP as I was upset. After 5 mins recruiter called me back and says this role is closed and hence you are disqualified. When I probed further, recruiter admitted, that me negotiating JB/Flight tickets was not taken kindly by HM after I accepted base salary and hence they reneged my offer! I am upset and depressed and have lost the desire to move to UK :( If that HM is reading this - "F**k you man, F**k your lowball offer, where you cant even give a 1-way economy ticket. I dodged a bullet as my ultimate aim is tech companies/FAANG and I cannot imagine working with a rude narcissist a$$ like you" Tax: 31L INR TC, 8+ YOE. 1L INR = 1,00,000 INR Offer received/reneged - 50K GBP base + 10% pension. NO annual bonus/JB/Relocation/Flight tickets. #tech #amazon #investmentbank #softwareengineersalary #sde #faang #goldmansachs #jpmc #standardchartered #natwest #natwestGroup #rbs #royalbankofscotland #hsbc Am I Greedy and should not negotiate?
50k GBP is very low compared to 30L that you are earning right now. This a blessing in disguise. You should atleast target 80-90k GBP.
You're right. I have appraisal next month in Jan and my TC is set to increase to 35-36 , so UK is bad offer. I was just charmed with Europe and foreign :(
You need money to enjoy in a foreign land. With 50k GBP, you will be living paycheck to paycheck. Better keep trying but don't be too desperate. Check out Amazon UK/EU, they are hiring a lot.
Lol 55k GBP vs 31L in India. It's not even close. 31L can get you much Higher savings and quality of life.
Name and shame the bank
Which company is this ?
50k is very low, Europe companies are in habit of low balling people from India, I also rejected two European companies after getting offer because they were ultra low ball based on my experience. B/w no body in 2021 should opt these european offers as you are taxed heavily and given 🥜, it's the modern day slavery.
I have 3 more onsites coming with Europe (2 in EU and 1 in UK). But if the pay is 🥜, I will reject it, no matter what. I now feel unless one gets FAANG we get more pay in India itself rather than Europe. Sad thing is I never applied for a single india based role all these days. I will start applying now.
Looks like the HM got offended as you asked more than what that person was earning. Ignore them. Target FB/Bloomberg/Palantir. You will crack one of them and move to UK.
This makes sense. And I dodged a bullet. I will try one of the companies you mentioned. Thank you!
Lowball offer
Don’t go to Scotland. Go to London
London is HCOL. Even though I love to go to London, offer should be 80K + at least so I am financially secure and save every month.
You should easily be able to get £80 or above in London with your experience. The market rate for a senior engineer is around 100k-150k
50k is not a low salary. Not in Scotland. People from Blind need to remember that not everyone is earning Bay Area salaries.
It is for someone earning 30L in India.
True. 50K may be a above average pay in Scotland, but when compared to my current earning of 31L (31K GBP) (expected to move to 35L (35K GBP) next month due to appraisal), 50K def feels lot less!
Just read your post on LC
Yeah. I am so upset with this. I want to spread this word and hope others are benefitted with this
