Looking to buy a new car. Considering a hybrid like RAV4 vs. full electric like Kia EV6. Hybrids —> Worried if I buy a hybrid, value drops rapidly over the next few years since the world is moving to electric. EVs —> Worried they are all prototypes at this stage and might get replaced with ones with much better battery technology soon that current models become worthless. What do you think and why?

get a plug in hybrid, best of both worlds. i have a prius prime and the only real downside is the lack of swag but swag is not worth spending an extra 15k imo
I think you Uber'd for me once! XD just kidding
I had the Chevy Volt for a few years before I got my Tesla. Highly recommend that car, it's really a perfect car for most people.
If buying new, ANY car will have it's value drop right away. Depreciation is a certainty in either case, so don't base your decision on value falling. Rather base it on the value you can get out if it's use. For example, if this will primarily be a commuter and you have convenient access to charging (home/ work), all electric might serve you better. If you need to travel longer distances and/or fueling is more convenient , then hybrid is the way to go. Any EV that goes 100 miles does a good job in city/suburb living. I'd recommend exploring the VW ID.4 and Hyundai's electric SUV line up over the Kia though.
Ev6, has 4 to 10 k markup, also they are harder to find. RAV4 prime is more readily available
Rav4 readily available?? Where?
SF toyota, envision toyota Milpitas. One of my friends is buying XSE awd, looks like they have atleast a couple coming in

Buy a Tesla. It’s the only EV worth owning if you plan on ever driving beyond your city limits.
Lets assume money isn’t the deciding. factor. Depends on location and lifestyle. (There are many other factors, but I’m trying to focus on the most common and relevant) 1: Do you live in a city with charging everywhere? If so, Easier to justify EV 2: Do you live in a small town where you don’t drive long enough to need to charge anywhere but at home? EV may also be ok in this case. 2a: If you answered yes to 2, what does the charging station map look like if you were to take a road trip? Workable or not? 3: And most importantly, how long do you keep a car? If the answers to the first 2 questions make it fine to deal with charging, consider an EV, otherwise, a hybrid may be a better choice. I threw in question 3, because if you tend to not hold a car longer than 5-7 years, don’t worry about the new innovation factor, you’ll likely want to trade up anyhow because your battery range will be down to 70-80% of what it was when you bought it, and ranges are mediocre at best currently anyway. Therefore, go for the EV, and when the time is right to upgrade, you’ll inevitably get a better vehicle with newer technology. On the other hand, If you plan to hold for a longer time than that, you may want to stick to a hybrid or a plug in hybrid for now and wait on an EV, which by then, we will likely have a variety of great options for longer term ownership. Current EVs aren’t really designed with longevity in mind. So much depends on the battery warranty. By the time you need to replace batteries out of pocket, you’ll likely want to just buy a new car. 😂 Opinions may vary, but that’s mine. I hope it helps!
EV
EV6 is on a 800 volt platform which is the best available. It has the CCS charging port which is the standard going forward (Nissan is giving up on the leaf’s weird port and Tesla will add support on the superchargers for cars with CCS). Biden along with states such as Texas have announced there will be EV chargers every 50 miles on the highway and those will be CCS. Nothing about the electric drivetrain platform in this car will be obsoleted in the foreseeable future. The only downside of EV6 and Ioniq5 is that the autopilot isn’t as good as Tesla. Kia plans to improve this a lot in the next few years with better hardware but if you buy a EV6 now you won’t get that.
Great info, thanks! Do you own one? Do you really get as much as 7.5k back in tax credits?
I didn’t buy one but my friend did. The 7.5k federal tax credit is real One other issue is they are hard to find so most end up paying more than MSRP. You might save money by getting one shipped from another state.
