How did McKinsey go from a dream company to a sh** company?
I recall McKinsey used to be everyone's dream. Working there was considered a privilege and a symbol of smartness. No different than what Google was 10 years ago. That was early 2000’s to mid 2010’s…..MMB, investment banking and PE…before Tech started swallowing talent up..
It was never most people’s dream, let alone everyone’s dream.
From what I know, it was. Everyone wanted to pursue an MBA and become a McKinsey consultant. It was the dream company to work for. Working with multiple top clients, variety of projects, designing business strategies/ mergers and acquisitions strategies, wearing suits to work, free food, business travel, global mobility, travel to International destinations attracted so much top talent.

I think every non tech and banking field has shit salaries compared to tech and banking which wasn’t the case 10-20 years ago. Like being an accounting consultant at a big 4 firm used to be prestigious
Doesn't McKinsey pay well?
For a non tech company, it’s like 100k entry level 500k for partner I think (probably can get in low single digit millions for very senior partner). Tech is like 200k entry, 500k senior that you get to if you don’t suck
