Moving from new Jersey/new York to Seattle. What are the things I should take a note of for the move. How is the work life balance what are the differences between new York Life and Seattle life How is the living and any leisure activities after work. How is the job market there? Easy or difficult to switch if I don't like the workplace. Any sports group or communities I can join to make friends or for Hangouts? What options are there to make friends in seattle and Redmond area?
No more seaside...
Or fist pumping summers on the boardwalk... no more boardwalk, more rain, if you like mountains then amazing upgrade. But buy a diesel F250 with smoke stacks and get plates that say "NJNYFU"
I came from the east coast as well. The Seattle freeze is real. Don't take it personally. Us east coasters tend to call it how it is. There is a huge difference in personality. Find some east coast transplants to hang out with.
And to your concerns about jobs out here, if you have a right skills you'll get poached if anything. Tech recruiters are cut throat out here. If you work in tech, you're in the right place.
Bring Vitamin D with you, rest way better than NYC
Bring 3x more $$$$, that’s all.
Don't do it
I'm also moving to Redmond very soon! I have the same questions in my mind. You posted it before me! 😐
Hope the answers help. Yep m nervous too about the move. But gotta do it. Good luck buddy
Oh god cerner
Relocated last year from NYC. Pros living in WA: -Life/work balance is better here. - Decent salary - Outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, bouldering, etc) - Seattle is a growing city with bunch of transplant. Cons living in WA: - Hate to say, but it is a boring city. - all the restaurant in Redmond area closes around 9pm. - There’s not much nightlife after 1-2am even in the city. - Laid-back, Slow paced. New Jersey/NYC is much faster in pace.
1-2 am? Seattle sleeps at 10pm. I was able to drive into the city on New Year’s Eve last year and park wherever I wanted to go wherever I wanted to go, ON NEW YEAR’S EVE! It was dead at 11 PM, unbelievable!
It took me a year to learn to stop comparing it to the east coast. It's a beautiful, small city at the cusp of change. Just be sure to join clubs, pick up a sport and go to meetups. Don't worry if people make plans with you and flake. They're all flakey out here. Eventually things will work out.
Seattle is more relaxed and has a slower pace. It felt a bit too slow for me after having spent so much time in NYC. It was a bit harder to meet people in Seattle. Drinking/nightlife is more social in NYC. Seattle is cleaner and has nicer housing stock. Dating will probably be a bit harder if you’re single. On the other hand, if you have a family overall quality of life will feel better. Job wise, it’s probably a tad bit better in Seattle because of all the tech companies there.
Thanks that helps. Yes being single I have to figure out how to make friends.
Absolutely agree . Zero income tax is nice as well
