I just want to share my experience for others because this really has been a teaching moment for me. The acquisition was announced about a year ago and back then we didn’t know what will happen, over time I started seeing people leaving VMware but thought me and my team are safe due to: 1-We are billable and we have current contracts with customers (field consultants) 2- Our manager kept reassuring us that we are safe up until about a couple of months ago when he shared that they got word from broadcom that we are all safe Now fast forward to last week when the merger was officially approved by all countries and the bloodbath began, people getting full time offers, transitional offer (for a certain term) , or being laid off To this day me and my team didn’t get anything and we still don’t know weather we are staying or going 3 days ago I started panicking and applying to every role that I think fits me and regretted not doing it a year ago when I had the time. Its an experience that I will grow from and now I know not to trust anyone and always have a plan b, c all the way to z Wish me luck Edit: I don’t blame my boss at all because I know he just was saying what he was told and this is surely on me
Broadcom is a $hitty company. They didn't communicate anything. For them employees are like slaves. So, there is no mistake of Vmware people.
Sorry to hear about your situation. I hate job hunting, so I rarely act on my advice. But when people ask me if they or we are safe from layoffs. I almost always say no. Because you are almost never safe. Even if I hear positive rumors and perhaps takes comfort in them, I will tell other engineers to assume nothing. If the decisions are made by HR and a handful of leaders who have no personal connection to you. You are nothing but an expensive data point. Which they will sort and prune from the set if you meet a few of the right criteria. Most of the tech companies seem to be going for the more cold calculated approach.
The cycle of innovation and death in software is remarkable.
Will they lay people off before the holidays. If so. Shame on Broadcom
Hock Tan in his employees all hands for VMWARE said no to new features or innovation. Currently 99 percent affected are HR, legal, sales, admin. In coming months majority of engineering which was 13000 will be gone. Hock Tan has clearly said that he wants to make money by selling VMWARE legacy softwares to big customer.
Did you get bc offer?
Yes.
