Can someone explain the layoffs at VMware? Is it just for high level roles/management/SWE/politics? My team has worked there for years and never mentioned layoffs, and hired a few new people. I don’t want to worry :(
Who are the latest layoffs effecting ?
Yeah I wonder who
Many of the people effected have been moved into new roles and others will have to apply for open positions. Over all it was a small number but it was devastating to certain teams.
So they moved into different roles in the company or new, but lay offs occurred?
The affected employees retain their access to vmware emails for two months usually so they can apply for internal postings. I've noticed quite a few move into different teams. Otherwise re-org is what employees that don't get laid off might go through, they might be moved to different teams(usually teams move as a whole) and they don't get a choice.
Layoff can happen to anyone , every aug and jan. Mgmt will change “priorities “ and teams who dont align with that will be cut one day. Simple as that
... simple as that until it hits home 😏
Lay-off in some areas where due to restructuring and overlap in job functions. Leaders are coming with a new strategy as you all know VMware is a rollup of many companies through acquisitions so you can see the overlapping. I hope this helps
That makes sense
Some of them were due to a re-org. Atleast for those in GSS.
Any layoffs in CPBU org?
Vmware lays off all the time esp around January
Who usually gets hit, which BU?
Could be anyone a lot of the time the lay offs aren’t even related to performance
