New grad here. I have offers from VMware and Oracle OCI. I really like the tech stack and work at the VMware team (I had been interning here). But the comp at oracle is significantly higher. Team matching is not done at Oracle yet. Hikes and refreshers at the VMware team are very good, and talking to OCI folks I heard that they don't get hikes. Please correct me if I'm wrong about oci. Also the sign on at oracle has a 2 year clawback. VMware TC: Base: 15.5L Target: 1.7L Sign on bonus: 3.5L Rsus: 2.8L/year for 4 years OCI TC: Base: 15.5L Sign on bonus: 6L (clawback of 2 years) RSUs: 150 rsus/year for 4 years (8.8L/year as of today's price) Where do you guys think I should join? Is the work and team at VMware worth forgoing the tc bump? Heard good reviews in general for oci as well. Please comment our your pov if you can, it'll really be of help!
This is sound advice ^
OCI is better option because you will get to learn more
Why do you say that? Could you please give me some more details
Couple of things 1- OCI is a public cloud provider similar to AWS and Azure VMware is stil enterprise software provider 2- OCI is new to cloud and scaling out at a faster pace , I see there will be lot of opportunities to learn and grow
In a similar situation. Have to chose between OCI and Flipkart
Coming from someone who worked with both OCI and VMware. Given the two opportunities, I would vote for OCI. OCI has been doing pretty good in the recent past, the work is also good. Also, the pay and the hikes or refreshers at OCI are much better than the other orgs of Oracle. While it's a perception that VMware gives good hikes and stock refreshes y-o-y, it is not guaranteed. Even if it is, the actual numbers may not be that good.
Thanks for your input! Heard that freshers get sre work in oci. Is that really the case? Also would it be worth it going from one of the best teams at vmw to a random team at oci? Pay is definitely better at oci though..
Do you know of the oci virtual cloud networking team?
You may want to check with your recruiter if he can provide more insights into the SRE part of your question. Given that you are in the early stage of your career, I would say it should be fine to try out something new, esp. when you are getting exposure around one of the growing cloud companies. Also, as someone suggested the OCI experience might help you get into the other leading cloud companies - AWS/ Azure, etc
Yeah that makes sense, thank you! Recruiter won't be able to help right now as team matching is not done yet. VMware has already started the process so don't have much time to reject them ig
Learning opportunities in oci is immense.

Real talk: in what way private schools are better than public in nyc?
Join OCI and switch after 2-3 years to SDE-2 role to FAANG or other equivalent companies
I was considering this. Are exit opportunities from oci better than VMware? Or are you just saying because of the large tc gap
Yes
