Anybody else consider picking up a 2nd FT job as a safeguard against being laid off at acquisition? I'm currently at VMware and have an offer in hand. Problem is I've been at VMware less than 1.5 years and I don't want a short stint on my resume. If I take the offer and still work at VMware through the acquisition, what is the downside? TC: 375K New TC: 420K
No reasonable person would look down on you for changing jobs after an acquisition. It sucks but that is life. You have a good reason why you’re changing jobs. I wouldn’t personally work two FT jobs as I don’t have the stamina and would burn out easily. I would honestly rather deliver pizzas than take on two tech jobs. If you think you can go for it, great but I think people exaggerate how effective they are at two FT jobs. You’re paying a cost some where.
Great point. Thanks!
I use to work at ca before bc acquisition. Layoffs will definitely be coming
Yoe? Where is your new offer from? Your new TC is decently higher than your current TC, so you should change it regardless of layoff.
It's a public but earlier stage company. If I name the company, I might reveal my identity at work. 12 YOE.
Might as well work 2 jobs until you get the notice youre laid off. Broadcom is not a good company to work for so even if they happen to keep you you should leave.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking too.
Why not just leave? New TC is higher anyways and you might save a teammates job
Leave for now. Come back later and increase TC.
Wtf is BC?
