The Trade Desk culture

Can anyone who works at the Trade Desk comment on the culture and WLB for SWEs? I'm thinking about joining since the tech seems really cool. #thetradedesk

Some insider thoughts on this thread... Re: Culture and WLB, depends of course on what you're looking for, but from my perspective both are great. There is a strong work ethic, high standards for contribution, and still small enough that any rest-and-vesters couldn't hide for long. But no death marches, night/weekend work is rare (unless you just can't get that problem out of your head, which my SO might say is my issue :)). A few months into COVID Eng leadership noticed people weren't taking PTO and actively encouraged it. The pace is intense sometimes, but overall healthy and sustainable. Very low attrition (<3% I think was the last figure I heard). People love it here, including me. And yes, the tech is really freaking cool! Re comp: also depends on what you're looking for. If you want more or less guaranteed cash flow with little risk (but also limited upside) you might be more comfortable at FAANG. If you're willing to bet on TTD's vision for the future (data driven advertising > random guessing, open Internet > walled garden monopolies, etc.) you've got a really good chance of coming out significantly ahead. Certainly it's worked out that way for almost everyone here so far. Re: Google and 3P cookies, this is neither new nor a major concern. 3P cookies are antiquated and deeply flawed tech, and we weaned our reliance on them a while ago. Everyone said the sky was falling with GDPR too, and our business grew. Meanwhile, Google has just taken themselves out the race for the open Internet. They are betting their scale will compell brands and publishers to use them exclusively, or silo their advertising efforts -- but this is a strategic mistake. As big as they are, the global Internet is way way bigger. Brands and publishers will ultimately not stand for being strong armed, consumers will eventually demand the same transparency and control on the Google ecosystem as they will be getting everywhere else through broader industry initiatives like UID 2.0 (which TTD spearheaded). In any case, if you've made it to the offer stage, congrats! That's not an easy thing to do here. You probably have multiple good options, so no bad choices for you. I hope I get the pleasure of meeting you at Palooza (or who knows, maybe we'll be in the same office once that's a thing again). Regardless, good luck to you!
