Can PM’s at JPMC speak to the product culture at the company? Pros and cons? Specifically, how’s it different from tech company PM? Thanks!#pm #product #productmanager
What's the ladder look like at banks when everyone's a VP?
VP, Executive Director then Managing director or VP, SVP, Director…. It depends on the company.
When can one get promoted from a VP to a Business Analyst?
I was an Exec. Director (edit: at the CCB group) for over 2 years and would not recommend anyone to join as a PM, let alone to younger professionals. PMs at JPMC are glorified project or program managers. They have little control over the fate of their products and the bureaucracy kills any attempt of innovation or speed. There are PMs whose sole jobs are to keep JIRA tickets. Also, very few people at Chase know how to really product-manage. Some still think that "agile" is the modern approach. I saw a small front end change in the Chase app (normally a 2-3 weeks change elsewhere) taking 9 months to launch. It's a professional graveyard for young, hungry folks. Some pros of joining are that you can coast for years and cut a likely low but steady paycheck, and that effective work hours are quite little (standard 9-to-5). Just make sure your manager likes you.
Thanks for the feedback! Are there some teams or products that are better than others? or are they all somewhat the same?
I can speak for the CCB org. Not sure about others but company-wise what I described above should be quite accurate.
What’s the comp like for VP, JPMC?
I’ve heard it varies a lot. Base can be up to 200K. Bonus 20% min, 30-40% max.
