Why do Indians lie so much about their skills/experience?
Hello all, I am coming into Amazon in the beginning of November and I was wondering if I would get a couple of vacation days. I planned a small trip to Seattle around Christmas time. Thanks!
I started last Nov and got several days of PTO to use before the end of the year, but not much vacation if I remember correctly. At any rate, I’d guess you’ll have days off you can use.
Are they still only offering 10 days for new hires? Vacation used to be PTO and was used for both vacation and sick leave at one point in time iirc - dunno if that’s changed
PTO at Amazon includes a “personal time” allowance of six days per year. Normally you accrue those throughout the year, just like vacation. But for your first year only, you are given all six days when you begin. So you will have those days to use without having to wait for accrual of vacation time. Though since you’re starting in November, I’m not sure if you’ll be given all 6 or a fraction. I started in April and had all 6 available right away.
So PTO is counted separately from vacation? And vacation requires accrual?
Yes, PTO, vacation, and sick days are all counted separately. Your first year you get some bunch of PTO immediately but have to accrue vacation and sick time. After your first year they accrue together every month.
If you’re newly starting in November bring it up ASAP with your manager that you already had some planned PTO days that you also mentioned to your recruiter (You did mention this to your recruiter right??). Most managers are relaxed and understanding if you’re visiting home for the holidays and would generally let you WFH. Goodluck and welcome!
Give your manager's contact. Will ask him.
