Trying to assess future for tech and real estate in Vancouver. Thoughts on moving there full-time for work? #tech #vancouver #realestate
Real estate is outrageous there but unlike the Bay area or Seattle, it's not from tech money
Currently here and love it, but as mentioned above it’s def more about the lifestyle. Tech jobs are improving (Amazon is moving in strong, Apple, and MS slowly) but you will not get a Bay Area salary, and housing is $$ :-(
TC ?
Expect your TC to cut in half and your cost of living to go higher (mostly housing), but some people like the lifestyle more.
Focus on remote US companies. I've been seeing huge numbers paid out by companies like Stripe for remote Canadian workers. Like ~300k CAD.
For a senior level?
L3 would get that easy. Base alone is 200K+
Basic tear me down house you would've want to live in costs > 1.5MM. Food in Vancouver is expensive and generally trash. Climate and outdoors are really nice.
Chinese, Indian, Japanese food choices are great but I agree other cuisines are more middling
Depends on your ethnicity. If you're Indian, prepare to face racism from Asians. There are a lot of Asians there. I'm not kidding.
What? Why?
Um because Asians are racist against non-whites? Lol...
I’m from Vancouver. Expect less money but way better lifestyle. Vancouver is amazing TLDR: you come to van for the lifestyle, not the $$$
Stanley Park FTW
I wouldn’t trade biking around the park for any TC
