Vanguard Offer - Thoughts?

I just received a New Grad Offer From Vanguard. It is an Application Engineer II role (Vanguard uses Application Engineer instead of Software Engineer). Location: Malvern, PA or Charlotte, NC (I get to choose) Base: 94.5k SignOn: 10k Bonus 1: 8% of base salary ($7,600 - based on performance) Bonus 2: (4,200 * multiplier) (multiplier based on Vanguard performance - on avg it's 2 (lowest ever being a 1.5 and highest a 3.2)) = $8400 Stipend: $1,500 (After 1 year, 401k up to 4% match (immediately vested). In addition, Vanguard contributes 10% of RSP eligible to RSP, 6 years vested) TC: 94.5k + (95k*0.08) + 10k + (4.2k*2) + 1.5k = 122k Thoughts on the offer? Can any current software engineers provide insight into work-life balance, culture, and career growth? #offer #offers #vanguard #jobfit #newgradsalary #newgrad #swe #engineering #software #

Current Vanguard employee here. I am looking to leave the company after partnership in June. Would not recommend working at Vanguard to anyone unless it is your only option. You can get better paid almost anywhere else, and there is no WFH option.

Is it, not hybrid? Monday and Friday work from home and TWTh is in person. That's what I was told by the HR.

It is hybrid

Work life balance is good, it's fairly rare that I work outside of my core hours, I worked on a weekend once and it was more of a choice to stay ahead. People genuinely want you to take your PTO and use all of it. We have hybrid for most employees, many people are not happy with it and want full remote, I don't think we'll get full remote any time soon but I also don't think they'll take hybrid away like others are doing. Pay is probably the biggest issue for a new employee. It can be hard for people who came in from college to get the salary they want and many end up quitting after a year or two because they can get it somewhere else.

Excellent WLB, hybrid work schedule M/F are WFH. Compensation is okay but the 14% 401k is the best around so that helps. A lot of teams are 100% cloud based infra but that is team dependent. High performers are rewarded but you see a lot complain about slow growth (usually those that fulfill role expectations but aren’t high performers). Stability can’t be beat in this market.

This is a very good offer for a new grad at the Vanguard - most come it at Eng 1. If you show up and demonstrate competence lots of room for upward mobility. Extremely stable company in this economy, please feel free to dm if you want to chat

Very good offer. All vanguard employees get paid pretty much the same, but you’re higher in the band. I recently got promoted from Dev I to Dev II and my base is $92k

Truist b14zkv1rus OP May 4, 2023

Which location are you at? If you are open to sharing. Also, congrats on your promotion!!

You need to go for it. Even if you decide to exit later, you’ll get that critical first job experience. Good luck to you!
