Vanguard account
I am in H1B visa status, and planning to invest in index funds like VTSAX. Am I eligible to open an account with Vanguard? I called customer service and they told me that they I am not eligible to open a trading account as I am on H1B. Are there any options for me to invest in index funds, given that I am on H1B visa?
H1B people can open accounts with Vanguard for 401ks, IRAs, brokerage accounts, etc, you just need to be a US tax resident.

I am working at Amazon. So other than Amazon, I can invest in any stocks, right? Can I buy index funds, even though the index contains Amazon as one of the companies?
