Is it OK to use existing 401k account (employer plan) to create new brokerage account on Vanguard or is it preferred to create a new one? Does it even matter? TC 250k
Not sure what you are asking. vanguard is one of the best brokerages out there so yes, totally fine to set up you own after tax with them, even though your 401k is also with them. The “new” account you set up will be separate from your work 401k but at least you won’t need to learn a new interface.
I don’t know why would you do that to yourself. Each type of account is treated completely differently. I have 529s, brokerage, Traditional IRA, Roth IRA and 401K and if I setup separately I will loose my mind
Not sure about Vanguard but Fidelity automatically merge 401k to my personal account (brokerage, etc). They base on SSN
use the same account else u got multiple logins
