PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
I work as a full stack developer in a hardware company. Sort of odd, but that’s how I got my foot in the door, being a covid graduate. Waited for my H1-B to get picked up, and it got picked in my last try, mid-last year. Now my company is ready to file for the Perm process , and I heard it roughly takes ~2 years for this. I really want to switch jobs and move to a pure tech company with a product focused software development, but I don’t know if I should complete the Perm process here and switch. I do like the work culture here, my manager is very supportive, always supported me with everything. I have a verbal offer for promotion this year, but nothing definitive yet. But, the compensation isn’t very competitive here, and the product I work on is internal, not very big, with low users. And as mentioned before, I want to move to a pure software development tech company. But I have already suffered enough with the Visa anxiety for 3 years now (luckily my H-1 got picked in the last try), and don’t want this for the perm as well. What should I do ? Get your PERM first so that you can lock in your Priority Date, then move
This!
You still have 6 years on H1B. You can switch companies and start the process asap
International Student here 🙌🏻, At this Market situation, I’d suggest you with staying wherever your employer is happy with you, layoff fear will be worse than Visa fear.
If your company has low layoff risk stay and get the PERM done. Also are you Indian/Chinese?
It is a no brainer. You like your company and it likes you. If a GC is your top priority then stay two more years. The economy should have improved by then.
