Visa staff or Facebook E4

Currently I am senior engineer at visa, now I got an offer from FB London for E4 and my manager is talking about my promotion to Staff engineer ( I didn’t mention I had another offer yet) What should I do ? Join Facebook : I believe get good technical learning, hands on implementation and large scale exposure. Take promotion in visa: get exposure of lead work, behaviour exp, might get a chance to build team too. How it can impact my career path? if I took E4 it will atleast took me 2yr to be promoted to E5 in Fb, and have no WLB. Blind tax: Facebook London: 150k GBP Visa India: ~50 lakh Current TC, visa Singapore: 145k SGD Visa India is approximate and verbal offer as it’s promotion #meta #visa #London #Singapore #facebook

Depends if TC is important for you or job title. Senior Software Engineer at Visa is no way near to Facebook E4 in terms of TC. Go with Facebook for sure

Yeah i won’t stay in visa as senior, but I wanna decide if visa offer staff in Singapore and match fb E4 in terms of saving, does it make sense to stay ? Though I know with fb refresher after 3rd yr will always be huge gap.

You'll relocate from Singapore to India for the staff promotion?

What is your experience

Actually I am planning to move out of Singapore, and manager might have sense that. So as my promotion packet is alr in pending from long that’s why he might have offered me visa india staff. Now I believe he might even offered staff in Singapore itself and might meet FB E4 in terms of saving.

Could you share FB London TC break down? Not sure about visa, but at FB you can learn a lot, moving to London also opens lots of other opportunities

Base: 85-90k( not putting in exact intentionally) + 10% bonus. Sign on: 30k Stocks: 200k usd/4 Visa Singapore: 132k SGD cash, rest stocks.

Wow great offer from FB, congrats

The problem with E4 is that you start from the bottom, means you would do a lot of grind work before getting anything interesting. If I were you, I’ll take staff engineer as you’d have exposure to leadership (which you won’t have as E4 in FB), and tell FB you are only interested to join as E5. FB would def reach out once again in less than a year

Get another offer, if you're staff level shouldn't be hard. Addepar hiring in UK, happy to refer.

FYI, the target bonus percentage for E4 will be 15% next year. Also, reminder that levels are hidden at FB. You can get as much or as little exposure to various things as you want. The expectations are different per level, but if you're performing higher, no worries as long as you hit the expected baseline on output.

Visa qwerty31 OP Dec 26, 2021

Yeah, I heard about hidden level, so I can work with my manager to get more exposure to hit more output and early promo. Also I didn’t heard anything abt 15% bonus, even in offer it clearly mentioned as 10% for meets all, May I know how you know abt it ?

Meta iamblessed Dec 26, 2021

I work here already :). The change will be effective in 2022.

Visa staff isn’t really staff. Also, Visa hires every new grad as senior. So senior isn’t really senior too. FB E4 is better, period. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Meta kWXj08 Dec 26, 2021

This. Take the meta offer, the higher pay will multiply. E5 in 2 years is pretty doable, and if you’re really performing at staff level that will get noticed quickly.

Visa qwerty31 OP Dec 26, 2021

Yeah true, I also heard the same, just bit concerned as FB recently hire a lot, so hope nothing much change bcz of it.
