#e-commerce #retail #wayfair #tech Recently joined wayfair as L3 yoe 5 TC 300k (stock price $300 estimate) Heard so many bad things before joining Wayfair, and indeed a lot of things could be better, a lot of things not perfect, But realized an interesting phenomenon: the bar is raising and when you offer different TC people will just have different reviews for the company. Wayfair used to offer peanuts TC and people joined earlier are a lot of fresh grads and inexperienced people, reviews are pretty bad. But when the stonk jumps - another example business mode is way more important than company tech proficiency- wayfair raised a lot TC for external hire, starting match Faang offer, a lot people from Faang come. From Pinterest/Google engineering VP, Amazon L7/ FB E6 plus to Netflix seniors, and a lot IC with 4+ yoe joined. I believed They have also heard many bad things before joining but when TC is enough They could think everything is solvable, and the tech stack becomes actually pretty new- a lot migration to GCP and microservices. The rec & search AI team is pretty strong. And we rolled out new hiring question sets and the bar is clearly raising, so there could be Opportunities to join earlier and occupy a seat with slightly less risks to join startup, But the risks are still be there if the stock couldn't get Amazon like growth speed people will just leave. But now it's still do crazy hiring and expand really fast, you can make up your own decisions to join or not. Try to be as subjectives as possible but I do realized if I got peanut TC I will critize the company as much as possible but now I generally feel things are ok and not that bad. Ok I know my TC is also peanut in Blind :( If you don't like it just close the tab, thanks!
Finally rollout could be by the end of this year. Various across different teams.
WTF would anyone join Wayfair?
Doing crazy expansion in Euro and will be in Australia and New Zealand pretty soon. Also doing a lot if language modeling to translate into non-English speaking countries.
Do you really beat fg TC? I was contacted by you, but ignored because TC is so low.
Which level your are interviewing? Usually like Amazon l6 come we can start at l4 400k and increase range and could boost to L5 going to 500k plus. Not saying completely beating But it's comparable.
Staff at LinkedIn, yoe 8, current TC is 500k after cliff. Look for 550-600k range. Still pretty hard to beat?
