Since people still can’t wrap their minds around the fact the Gaza death toll hasn’t changed
This is somewhat random but also disturbing. I learned that USPS allows live chicks to be shipped through their service. This has been a long-standing tradition in some rural regions. It entails packaging day-old chicks in specialized containers with food, water, and ventilation and sending them via USPS to their destination. I recently watched a YouTube video on this topic, and essentially they ship eggs that are about to hatch in a regular USPS box. However, if there is a delay, the chicks may die since the shell only provides them with nutrition for 48 hours.IMO there's something slightly inhumane about this practice.

Just because other things are bad doesn't mean we can't recognize when things are bad or inhumane. TBH, This isn't anything bad. it's just a "Oh that's weird" kind of post. That's the whole point of this topic.
I’ve gotten chicks in the mail twice now, and the USPS has done it for many decades. You’ve described the process a bit wrong, though. Chicks don’t all hatch at the same time, so Mother Nature came up with a solution. Just before the chick hatches, it sucks up the rest of the yolk into its body. (The chick actually develops from the white part of an egg; the yolk provides food while it’s growing in the shell.) The chick can then live off the ingested yolk for about three days while it waits for its siblings to hatch. (They actually have an umbilical cord to the yolk.) On hatching day, the chicks are sexed because almost everyone wants hens for eggs. The problem is that for most breeds, the sexes look the same, and it takes an expert to look inside their cloaca to make an educated guess as to the sex of the chick. They’re right about 95% of the time, so sometimes people get roosters that they then have to get rid of. At this point, the chicks are placed into a box with some straw and a warming block. No food or water because the ingested yolk will sustain them. They’re then sent express mail.
Fun fact: you don’t need a rooster to get eggs. Hens lay unfertilized eggs without a rooster present.
Doesn't everyone know that?
Ukraine is now full of them. All of them want a piece of that American Passport.
I thought OP is on about mail ordering brides.
I buy live fish online often
Traumatic last days of fish. I cannot imagine same treatment to a human. Note: I am no vegan.
I have multiple aquariums. Have never had a fish arrive DOA. They’re either shipped to the fish stores or shipped to my house, so it’s not much different. I only buy from ethical well known breeders too Not all types of fish can be found at my LFS
Here’s one of the best places to order chicks: https://meyerhatchery.com/

If you think that's inhumane, you should see what happens to male chicks on most farms.
Also I thought “humane” was a word for how we treat humans not animals. Of course it’s inhumane, we’re not mailing baby humans.
