Asking for my spouse working at Roblox. She has been on a pretty good stint for the last 2 years and the team re-structured. Now, she's absolutely not in good terms with manager. Heard internal chatter about being managed out and HR is involved. Fortunately she's gotten an offer recently so planning to quit the job. She has to quit a wonderful paying job and team only because of newly became manager's incompetence and unfair treatment on performance review. Question: How should she **ask for severance in exchange of volunteer layoff** instead of simply quitting or going through pip and get terminated eventually? Does anyone have experience about asking for severance in exchange of not going through the whole pip process that is resource intensive and stressful for everyone (mgr, mgmt chain, HR and of course employee). Any first-hand experience would be highly appreciated. Thanks blind community! Why not go through PIP, coast, then collect severance then?
Do they pay severance after pip?
Alot of places do, yes. I would ask about that if/when she's places on PIP. Maybe even ask about just leaving right away in exchange for additional severance
Your partner can just bring this up to their manager. Do it after the holiday break though
manager isn't cooperative so wanted to see if anyone has asked for severance in exchange of resignation
No. It is the manger
Not “since 2 years”. It is “for the last 2 years”
A recruiter from Grammarly recently called asking for your contact info
You know what this world can use better grammar without the subscriptions lol
If she already has an offer why not just quit? Or are you just trying to bag as much $ as possible?
I support it's right thing to do given a perfect job needs to be switched in current bad market situation because of incomplete manager. Definitely ask for severance or play out pip until they offer it to leave.
Don’t be greedy pig, ask her to give notice and quit.
I see why zuck didn’t fire your ass your slave for realll
The more people that quit willingly, the less chance of layoff for others. This is good for everyone
take some vacation, then peace out -- she is not owed anything morally or ethically or legally in this situation. If a new job is lined up, sign the paperwork and get past the start date ASAP. Brutal honesty, people complaining about 'unfair performance reviews' deserved those reviews 8/10 times and this is not a climate to fuck around and find out in over nominal $$ just because someone feels like a victim.
The job lined up is not as good as the current level & TC. She's thinking to stick around, accept pip/leaves and keep looking for better offer or just accept & move on.
roblox restructures a lot, and the growth is unclear, both personal and company wise. My friends stuck at the same level for years and has to deal with coasting incompetent manager. She should seriously consider leaving.
Looks like you know the nerve there, thanks 👍
Interviewed there and got the distinct vibe it was a shitshow
She's planning to leave for sure. Q is whether anyone has experience playing out pip & severance? Companies do create this stressful situation with pips but if we find a way to switch job + severance, pip might not be the worst thing to deal with, if someone gets in same situation
it's usually a offer for pip OR severance, not typically both.
Thanks, so she can ask for severance & offer to leave volunteer if hr says we're putting you on pip?
If this really works most people would stop working and ask severance
Absolutely! OP you are just being greedy!
It's not general practice because it's not straight forward and risky. Ppl have fear to get terminated if they stop working but companies can't just terminate you, they have to go through pip which is more expensive than offering severance. It's an option you've to ask/convince for, not offered.
