Hi all, I my current TC is 108 while my significant other’s is around 60. We’ve been splitting rent 50/50 since back when we were at the same TC. Since then, I’ve been making more and hopefully will continue to increase my TC. She hasn’t said anything but I feel like I should be contributing more. Right now I’m “living” on a 60k salary and all extra cash is going to savings/investments whereas she’s barely able to save. What should I do?
Tbh no perfect solution
Bro, if u can share a bed, you can share your accounts too.. there is nothing like 50:50 . Just merge everything and set autopay and chill.
Depends on what kind of girl she is, it's worth a conversation before making assumptions.
This is true, not a one-size-fits all kind of thing
Putting proportional to income may prove to be bad idea if SO starts blowing new found $$ :). You might be better off instead contributing proportional to income, use that delta and bring gifts or gadgets for SO. It will go very far :)
60:108 = 3:5 [$Shared expenses/(5+3)]*5 = your contribution. [$Shared expenses/(5+3)]*3 = her contribution. Problem solved. Not much extra load on you, much less extra load on her. You’re both net happier. Great deal But check with her, see what she’s okay with. Offer that if that’s what you want but she might want to keep it 50/50.
What if she says, let's get a more expensive place?
This happened to me. After new job and new salary, moved from a condo to a house. Then she started working just 4 days a week (took paycut) because her work was too much stress (and did it for 3 years).
Keep things the same, bank the rest in a savings account. If she's the one and you get married, use some of it for the ring or honeymoon. And if she isn't the one, then you're still good.
What’s hers is hers and what’s yours is hers
Percentage. Since you make 64% of total TC then you pay 64% of shared expenses.
Please explain your rationale
Um. I believe I just did?
