What is the culture like at lockheed martin, especially in bay area? Is it a good place for new grads in software engineering, or is it mainly people in their 50s?
I used them to get a master's then left but if you are into aero and defense there really isn't a better place.
I’ve heard great things.
Sounds about right. People treat each other respectfully and collegially in general, though there must be some jerks . Population is binodal in age , so probs lots of room for promotion if you stick around. Pay is not nearly as good as a tech company. In exchange you get a 40 hour work week and work on cool missions. Also will be more stable if the economy ever turns south in a big way. It takes longer for government spending to dry up than venture capital, for instance. Process control for flight software is going to mean a slower pace than traditional tech. R&D and AI probably less like that, but software is out of my field.
Don’t join the Bay Area campus or defense in general unless you have no other options. If it is your only option, then just use that one year to prep and interview. In particular, you don’t want the Bay Area since they are on the losing side of a political battle between them and the Denver site.
Yeah agreed, a lot of the work is going to Denver because engineers are more expensive here

SpaceX - Worth it while Young?
Lockheed has a good amount of young people now. They have been hiring a lot in the past few years. In the bay area it's mixed with people of all age groups. As far as culture goes, it depends on what site. Palo Alto is small and close knit, Sunnyvale is big with a lot of departments. Also depends on your team.
thank you so much!
