Paywall

I’m not sure what people expect when they move to Austin. It’s nowhere near the size of Bay Area / NYC and anyone that’s checked a weather radar will know it’s hot 3-4 months out of the year. I assumed people moved to Austin to get away from the “tech culture” of the Bay Area and be more focused on family/friends/hobbies.

Can’t read because paywall, but my guess is that it’s brutally fucking hot there for way too long. I worked with people who were remote from there and pretty much everyday in the summer is 100+. I couldn’t do that

Last week, the highest temperature through the day in San Jose (-75 degrees F) was the lowest temperature during the night in Austin. Fuck that!

Seems like a paid hit piece by california. For musk, i felt he was coerced to put a headquarters in palo alto because the governor might levy taxes on imports and exports regarding electric vehicles….. It also sweetens the pot that the state has manadated only the sale of electric cars in the state of california in the next few years. As for texas, yes the weather is extreme. However, the crowding and traffic are Nothing compared to california. Lastly, there is alot less homelessness and people are able to go to most parks and civic areas without paying for parking or fees to take up air and space. Ill take that over having to compete with every neighbor tech bro on my block for the same three job roles at only a handful of companies

It depends what works for you and what doesn't. For many people, extreme weather is the single deal breaker when choosing a place to live. They will always choose California with all its good and bad. For some folks weather isn't a problem and they like the big spaces and less traffic and crowding. To each their own.. there is no place which is perfect. We choose what works for us

Imagine thinking California cares enough about Austin to sponsor a hit piece 😂. Austin definitely has traffic that is worsened by the fact that they have no real public transit.Do you only stay near the 2 block radius by the Google offices in downtown Austin? What irony to say you don’t want to compete for only three job roles at only a handful of companies when that is precisely the problem with Austin. The Bay Area has breadth and depth of jobs because of its track record. Austin is not even close to the same and there’s only a handful of companies offering the salary you need to be there.

Paywalled, but seems clickbaity. Like the author just wants to write something contrary to the trend of people moving to Austin. Personally, I think Austin is nice, but it’s hot as balls and the walkable city part of it is too small. Most everyone just lives in typical suburbs there, so there’s nothing special about it compared to any other American city except a lot of tech employers.

To be sure, it’s probably the only city in Texas in which I’d want to live, but that’s not saying a whole lot. No state income tax would rule though.

Only here cause of tech. Most tech cities are either too expensive or small AF

It’s very particular about creating a startup. That takes time to build. Austin is where Seattle was 10 years back.
