I am having hard time picking my permanent WFH location. The final showdown is between these two cities. Please help me decide. My info: SWE, 10yoe, 450k, Bay area team, Indian, has school going kids, wife in tier 3/4 tech. Reason for moving: Wife hates earthquakes. I can move anywhere in the US. Only criteria is good schools and not too cold. Austin Pros: 1. More job opportunities (or team change) for future. But atm i am very happy with my current team and my manager is amazing, so i may stay with the team for years. 2. Flexibility of working from office or fully remote 3. Both me and wife can find jobs here and probably never have to move from here due to available opportunities. Dallas Pros: 1. Much better indian community (frisco, plano). More suburban. (i dont care for nightlife etc) 2. Slightly better housing situation. cheaper per sq feet. Thanks in advance! #hybrid #remotework #wfh Thanks for your inputs. I am going to Dallas!
It might help to mention what you are trying to accomplish by moving. By your post, all you want is something cheap, close to indians and a place your wife can find a job.

People tbink Dallas does not have jobs but that is false. Dallas has a ton of jobs in tech. Just few tech companies. Again you can make a lot of money in management but you may not like it
Dallas any day
If remote, then Dallas. If you want to explore local job opportunities, then Austin.
If you want to be around a lot of East Asian Indians and suburban sprawl, for sure Dallas can accommodate.
Since you are Indian, go to Dallas there are so many Indians there, you'll fit in better
Facepalm to how this was worded.

Why not move to the east coast? Eg Philly suburbs have have better schools than Texas
OP stated "not too cold".
Can you share sine examples? Also, why Philly suburb over say northern Virginia or Raleigh/Charlotte?
Pick Dallas. There are more pros to Dallas. Austin is a massively overhyped city. Austin does not have good infrastructure to support a growing population. Traffic congestion is extreme in Austin compared to Dallas. Be ready for crowds in the summer at major Austin parks or recreation spots. You won’t see this happen in Dallas. Dallas is a better city for families and desis. Dallas has plenty of jobs. DFW area is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country.
Man I thought the Austin has shitty infrastructure thing was talked about too much of the time until I moved more into northern Austin. Some of the road/highway designs are a nightmare
And yet every time I go to Dallas I see traffic jams. On weekends. What kind of infra do Dallas suburbs have that Austin doesn't?
