https://www.wsj.com/articles/next-wave-of-remote-work-is-about-outsourcing-jobs-overseas-54af39ba Because of folks like that Meta PM Riley Rojas and other entitled folks who want everything under the sun - high TC, WFH (preferable at LCOL), 20 hour work weeks, covid vacation days, togo boxes, massage therapists, doggie day care (don't ask), organizing walk outs to show solidarity with the Palestinians/Eriterians/Malians (seriously WTF), wont let parent org work for DoD, ICE, police etc and so on and so forth. Even research into AI is guided by our "hall monitors" who decide what's PC and what isn't. Add in a heavy dose of uber virtual signaling and what do you get? Seriously, WHAT DO YOU GET? YOU GET BANG'ALORED! So furious with these bratty folks who couldn't just keep quiet, put their heads down, do the work and turn up to the office just like the millions of doctors, fire fighters, policemen, teachers etc. Even the extremely well compensated folks on Wall St are turning up 5 days a week. Are we code monkeys that special that we need to be treated with kid gloves? Well, if you think your job can be done remotely, then guess what that same job can be done remotely from Bangalore, Mexico City, Beijing, Sao Paulo or Warsaw. WE ABSOLUTELY DESERVE THIS. Too much molly coddling and pandering has resulted in cultural decay. TC 405
It will come back after few years after seeing the quality
Things that went there in the past 20-25 years never came back. Many companies have bases in India from late 80s and the work-base has been continually expanding not shrinking. It is pure hubris to think that folks in US somehow are special and deliver better “quality”.
And never came back? Did you just wake up from a 25 year nap, rip van winkle
You tell em! This has been long time coming...
How’s going to office a solution? If a job can be outsourced it will. Technology is more than outsourcing. Tiktok was built in China and look at the political environment it has to deal with.
It's the conservative mind at work. Open wide and get some trickle down (theoretically)
Boomer mentality.
Ok, boomer.
Lol wtf is this post, outsourcing has been happening for years regardless of remote work Also I don’t know if you’ve worked with offshore contractors before it’s s really horrible experience, I’d say only 10% of those devs are actually competent, never seen such bad code or weird stuff in my life
It's sad but true. No need to blame others. The technology and globalization do their thing. As call centers were outsourced long time ago without any woke pressure, same happens with swe.
The crème of India for the most part moved to the US & EU and will continue to do so over the next several decades. If what’s being done here is outsourced entirely to India, the product quality will take a hit big time
That's a myth, most of the indians currently going for masters to USA are incompetent
Def a myth.
If it was about cost cutting it was going to get offshored regardless of wfh policy. This is a dumb take.
It's a bought and paid for take from the commercial real estate owning class. Who do you think WSJ caters to?
Didn’t we go through this already like a decade ago? Am I hallucinating?
OP wasn’t alive yet then apparently. 10 years ago, also 20 years ago, also sometime in the 90s.
It just means outsourcing is going to get even worse now.
