Hi Folks, Please comment about the WFH policy in your company. I think everyone knows about Apple :) Also what do you think for long term, is remote work sustainable or not?
Amazon SDM need to stare at SDEs' back all the time. Office work is the only way to go.
Hybrid approach works only if everybody is either WFH or WFO the same days.
Why? You'll still end up with tons of overlap if people are in 3 days a week. And can do mandatory WFO for specific days for group meetings or whatever.
Qualtrics is hybrid. 3days/week on site.
Full remote will sustain because it is beneficial for both employers and employees. Companies just need to build proper culture and bring everyone together at least every quarter for a few days or a week.
Haven’t heard of any company speaking in that direction as of now though. Everyone is supporting hybrid right now.
Are you living under a rock? Dropbox, Twitter, Atlassian to name a few. Some companies like Gitlab were already fully remote before covid.
No, I don't know about Apple. Add it in your post.
It’s all over the news today
Didn't come across any post on Blind. Will search.
We’re mandatory in-office as of next month, and wfh is ad hoc at your manager’s discretion. It’s exactly the pre-Covid policy. They’ve learned nothing from the past 15 months.
This argument makes no sense. In globally distributed companies you won’t interact face to face with your colleagues daily. You may not ever meet them. What matters is being able to communicate efficiently through a computer. You don’t need to be physically together to get things done. Cisco sells hardware and software to make collaboration much easier. The audio and video is so awesome on some that it feels like you’re in the same room.
Google said Microsoft and Facebook will allow complete remote work for employees. But apparently Microsoft employees will have to get approval from their managers. Google looks like they're leaning towards a hybrid model. My employer will go with the hybrid model.
IMO hybrid is perfect. Gives the option to flex or just maintain long-term WFH. Shouldn’t really matter where you work from as long as you deliver, been a debate for years pre-covid. I personally plan to WFH Mon/Fri and WFO T-Tr. I’ll work hard 3 days a week in the office and do nothing on Mon/Fri from home. Win-win-win.
Hybrid approach is the way to go. Flex every day, with required in office one or two days a week
What’s the WFH policy for Facebook?
Nah.. you need to live near the office, that's a problem. Full remote is a better option.
