I will try to make this as short as possible, I have realized I want to get into quant finance as a trader, but that requires that I get a masters from top university. I want to do statistics but I don’t have the background. Every university has said, “you already have a bachelors, you can’t come back, just apply to the grad program”, but the grad program says, “you’re not qualified, get more experience.” I have a degree in comp eng from a non-target university, and I’m working in a very non-impressive job as a dev. Am I just screwed? Do I have any chance of getting into a good grad program?
You graduated. You’re not an undergrad anymore. Unless you’re trying to go to a different school
Even different schools haven’t allowed me to apply since I’ve already got my undergrad
Oh interesting, I always hear people studying for a second bachelor’s
I have two undergrad degrees. Which university is this?
How was it getting two undergraduate degrees? Just curious... What was the day to day experience like the first time and the second time ?
First time it was like everyone else…all fun and no education. Second time since it was while working it was all education and no fun 😊
Answer: because most State schools do not even have the capacity for incoming high school seniors. If you already have a bachelor's degree, why should you be allowed a second bachelor's degree and deny someone an opportunity to have their first? That is the thinking. Thus, for example, California (and many other) State schools do not allow this. (Not agreeing, just answering YOUR SCREAMING QUESTION IN THE TITLE)
It’s just super frustrating because I feel like I’m pigeonholed into what I graduated in and it’s so hard to make a change. But I appreciate the response.
YOU'RE SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS!!!
Sorry I just had to yell or people don’t respond to my posts haha
Bless your soul OP
The reason they don’t allow second bachelors at state school in California is that your first bachelors was already subsidized by tax payers. The change started in 2008 during the recession when the state faced a budget deficit. They eliminated a lot of things to cut costs, including going back to school for a second bachelors.
You definitely can go back for a second bachelors. What schools told you otherwise? Also why do you want to be a quant trader?
Actually some State schools do not allow this.
Are you trying to claim there are state laws against this?
