As much as the money is attractive at HRT, I want to know about the reality of the following 2 points: 1. Mentorship: mentorship received from the other senior members on the team as a Senior SWE myself(3+ YOE) 2. Work-life balance Could anyone help explain those factors?
HRT no brainer
1 - 3 yoe isn’t senior. 2 - find your own mentor 3 - HRT is gonna pay you like 4x more. Enough to make nothing else matter
HRT won't pay 4x more lol. Bloomberg senior SWE is at least 250k. Is HRT paying him 1M?
There are plenty of people to serve as mentors at HRT; we might not have super formal systems, but if you talk to people, they will help you and you will have mentors. HRT will almost certainly pay better over the long term, but yeah if it is 4x then that's a bad sign for Bloomberg pay. Could definitely see 3x after a couple years though.
At 3 yoe is WLB really that important? Yes Bloomberg WLB is great. I work 9-6 every day with an hour lunch and never think about work once I’m home and I’ve only gotten excellent evals. It’s great as a parent… but in my 20s I would have been fine working 60+ hours and stacking money in the process. Grind it out at HRT while you can
Honestly, with my visa process. Yes it is, wish I could say it wasn’t. I’m actually a huge startup enthusiast and previous co-founder. But I have to not grind, to get the visa, WLB is not the important criteria though. Mentorship is! I don’t know how good the mentorship is at HRT, but I do know it’s good at Bloomberg.
Get the offer first
Actually you’re right. HRT interview process is cutthroat🥲
both of these things are super team dependent from what I’ve heard I don’t think mentorship would be better at bloomberg
Agreed. Too many dinosaurs at Bloomberg who aren't very technically strong but have clout because of tribal knowledge that's only useful within Bloomberg.
What makes you think that doesn't exist at HRT?
I can’t speak on HRT, but my experience at BBG has been stellar so far wrt mentorship and WLB. Of course, this is somewhat team/org-dependent, but I wouldn’t trade my time here so far for anything else.
I like this answer, thank you! Making me feel better
Honestly I just feel a bias apart from that. About the bonus and how large it is at HRT compared to BBG. But everything else, of course BBG is better
You don't even have both offers yet? lol
Yup, interviewing. But I guess good to have this info in the back pocket. Will reach out to evaluate if it’s good:)
Help will always be given at HRT to those who ask for it. That aside get an offer before you worry.
Hey it's me at HRT I wanted to ask for help what's ur I mean *our* latency?

If you have offers at both, not taking HRT would be incredibly dumb. More money, better engineers, better resume value. All around better.
Hmm, but I really need to know the truth behind the mentorship atleast
Cause I’ve been in startups where the culture for engineers is basically cutthroat, I think I would like a calmer environment for once. Is the interview at HRT supposed to be more harder? (FYI still interviewing for both)
