L4 SWE @ Google India - Where can I switch?
L4 SWE in Google India (BLR) 5yoe (~4 @ Google) TC - 82LPA (~100k USD) tldr; Looking switch externally at L5 roles in BLR. Few questions at the end of post for same. ----- Had multiple manager changes, re-org and project changes last few quarters - feeling totally burnt out and uninterested in work now. While I'm in line for promo next cycle and fairly confident about it, I find staying here next 6 months just for promo totally unbearable - especially after losing interest in the work. Internal switch within Google doesn't make sense since it'll delay promo by a year at least. And with recent comp changes means I won't be getting any hike next year either without a promo. So I'm exploring my options on where can I switch externally at L5 equivalent roles in BLR. ------ Few questions I have. 1. Is the market situation good to switch at the moment? i.e. are there enough openings? 2. Where all can I switch (MAANG vs Late Stage Startups)? 3. What kinda TC can I expect? 4. What all preparation do I need to do? For 2/3, I've heard top options are Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, PhonePe in terms of pay. Looking to get some guidance from the community here. It totally depends on what you’re looking for. 82 LPA is like a dream for many in India even today. So consider yourself fortunate to be in this spot. Ofcourse I am confident that your smart work and hard work both would’ve earned that for you. I suggest wait for next 6 months and get promo. By then, work on getting clarity about what do you want in your next role and based on that narrow down your choices of target company. While you’re coming from google, I think, any company will lay red carpet for you. But with a promo in hand, you’ll be in better negotiable position. Good luck!
