Asking RTO is one thing, now asking Directors to consolidate teams in 2-3 location is next level shit. Even before Covid, my team was distributed. If people have to choose between two shitholes - Seattle or Bay Area, Amazon will meet its attrition target in no time.
I don’t see what’s wrong in this ? Besides you say attrition but will anyone actually leave ? Like will you ? Be real….
You don't see what's wrong with hiring someone, telling them they can work from wherever they are, then later saying "syke, move your butt across the country or lose your job"?
I'm leaving for this reason primarily. I have others on my team that see the writing on the wall and are looking too.
That’s good for existing employees at these key locations. They get to keep their job as natural attrition takes care of the need to layoff any one. It’s a win win for everyone
Exactly. These lcol dilute wages in hcol overtime. Good riddance
I never understood why they do shit like this. The best employee on our team is remote.
Since I’m a nobody in tech, I’ll refrain from making any condescending statements about Amazon. However, it’s particularly scummy to ask people to RTO and then pack everyone into only a few buildings. What happened to that massive amount of commercial real estate that a mega-corporation like Amazon had? TC: 90K
I mean, the only benefit to being in an office is that you can be in the same room as your teammates. Otherwise you’re commuting to work remotely
What are you a somebody in?
As long as their TC is adjusted to the new location, it's fine. Amazon is an inoffice company and the office is located in Seattle/SFBA.
HQ2 is in VA, theres a large presence in Austin, and a decent presence in NYC. Those are probably the big 5.
Only if your team is located there. It makes no sense to be in office if everyone is in a different location. Would rather concentrate to 2 locations
It's... Work. It's a job. It's not happy fun time.
“It’s work “ also for me and I work remote and have a decent CEO, benefits and I’m not stressed for BS like what Amazon is doing. “Work” can be different elsewhere. I think it’s a good idea to have workplaces that you can trust executives word and promises.
Lol
Not just bay / Seattle area, Amazon is also ask for NYC and don’t forget the up and coming corporate office in Nashville, TN. This is Amazon way of cutting jobs without having to worry about whom they’re cutting.
What about Nashville, TN office?
When I joined Amazon I knew it wasn’t a good company to work for but they surpassed the lowest expectations I could have ever had for them.
Same. I’d give a TT rating for disappointment.
My team is fully distributed, with none of us in either Seattle or Bay Area. Im Ok if I get severance, but I’m don’t want to relocate for this job.
No severance as you will be let go “for cause” which is different to being laid off.
I’m virtual, so they can’t just relocate me. Either ways I’ll leave even without severance. Getting out of this hellhole is partial severance
I agree with this. Need Bay Area and Seattle to pay that top dollar and not get diluted by these remote fucks.
Are you saying most teams are being relocated to Seattle / sf from smaller offices going forward? How do you know this?
Plus 1. OP is saying like this is a company wide mandate?
No, this is upto L8 to choose 2-3 locations. Impacted people are already being asked, that’s how I know.
