The real reason private companies stopped providing LTC. They knew people would drop out later. These people are trying hard to take money from us and now changing the rules so that we can’t get away. Win win for insurance companies and govt. https://mynorthwest.com/3319983/long-term-care-private-insurance-advice/amp/
I got in and out with my tax avoidance luckily. I cancelled my LTC policy right when I received the opt out letter. It sucks that an incompetent government forced all this extra hassle for its citizens, but that's what government does.
If they reintroduce it, you may not be able to get coverage and be forced into the government plan! The whole thing is ridiculous though. If they had put a cap on the income tax, everyone would have just opted in.
That’s why they took a u turn and went back to the drawing board. What a shameful thing to do. Not honoring their own words.
Does this qualify for lawsuit? Govt came up with deadline, asked folks to sign up for private insurance as a way to opt out of this tax. Later changed the deadline and we are stuck paying premium to insurance companies? I wonder if behind the scene, someone in Govt is getting benefited from insurance companies.

Why Modi not asking for votes based on work?
If you put an unreasonable tax, people will use tax avoidance tools to get out of it. How much of this was unforeseen? This state doesn’t get taxes so they get creative to get your money. The target is the high paying working class rich.
Target is middle class. Rich people have tons of ways to avoid paying taxes. They are squeezing money from middle class and giving it to rich and poor. Btw sales tax is pretty high in WA so they are making money.
I don’t know whom you call a middle class, but if you earn less than 150k, taking a LTC plan to avoid the tax doesn’t make any financial sense. This LTC insurance customers are mostly techies earning 250k+ who are rich in my belief.
