Waiting for a response from Google after 9 interviews. What possibly could be going on?

After 9 interviews with Google for a PgM role in Cloud, I have no offer nor have I been declined yet. I have been interviewing since July 2019. The interviews consisted of the following: 1 with recruiter; 2 phone interviews with TPM & TPM Manager; 5 onsite and 1 Video follow up interview on leadership. The follow up was completed on 11/25 and I still don’t have an answer. Offer / No offer? What do you think? Thank you!

Holy shit, 9 interviews

Yes!!! 9 over 5 months. I don’t understand the complexity. I have 28 years as a Technical Project/Program Manager. This all started with a Google recruiter reaching out to me. 😊

Either they really want to take you or they have been getting mixed signals in each round. Don't get ur hopes up. 9 is just ridiculous.

Pretty standard. You are counting before onsite.

They overestimated their stagnant cloud business growth

5 separate onsite, or 5 in one day?

Fiserv girltech OP Dec 11, 2019

5 in 1 day with 1 Video follow up 3 weeks later. Thanks

So to break this down... you had your on-site, then went to Hiring Committee which then asked for a follow up interview to get more information to make a decision (either on hire or level). You then passed and went into team matching phase and now will do individual phone interviews with various teams until you both agree on a fit. This will continue (for weeks/months) until you time out.... not sure what criteria determines when/how that occurs. You won't have any conversations on compensation until the match occurs. Then it will be a week or so to get an offer and then another week or so to get the offer approved on their side if you are good with it.

You didn't set the expectation up front with them. 3 onsite/videos only (combined). If they are unable to make a decision after that you should move on and not accept additional requests for interviews.

That’s actually fairly standard. 5 onsite is very common in many companies and the recruiter interview isn’t really an interview. Google can take awhile especially since you did the follow up right around Thanksgiving so they’ll need to do HC after everyone’s back. Also, they like to take their sweet time

This feels intentionally click-baity. An on-site is one interview with 5 rounds.

I would continue on with life and check with-in with the recruiter or hiring manager, maybe once every two weeks. If you get the job big win, put your two weeks and be a Googler. If you don’t, not a big deal cause you were carrying on with life anyway. Usually an offer is good for about a year so if you did get the position you can set your start time far enough to account for any recent changes. I know someone who recently joined who waiting 11 months before joining. It can take time for some people. Not everyone’s process is the same unfortunately.

Thank you

Google needs to fix something. 2-3 months is ok but 5 months and counting ? Sounds like fucking rsu s to hold people captive. Follow up.with recruiter and let them know that you cannot be waiting forever.

Capco dmodemd Dec 11, 2019

Yes, they are quite dysfunctional in this regard. Amazon was able to take me through from first response to phone and on-site to offer within 2 weeks. (one of my Google interviewers took over 4 weeks just to complete his feedback on my interview). How do they build and deliver product competitively??

Hold on, that's not 9 interviews. The onsite is only 1 interview with 5 rounds. We count it as 1 interview. And the recruiter phone call isn't really an interview, it doesn't go into the packet. So in total, 2 phone interviews (standard if you didn't have a strong 1st phone interview), 1 onsite with 5 rounds (standard), 1 video call interview (could make sense given yoe and position). That's 4 interviews. Please don't mislead people.

Fiserv girltech OP Dec 11, 2019

It was definitely not my intent to mislead anyone. While I have worked for some GREAT companies in my career, I had not gone through the interview process with a FAANG. My interview experience prior to now has been totally different. In my experience, you had to clear the recruiter interview before moving forward so I counted it. Thanks for your point of view!

No worries! Yeah faang interviews are a bit long compared to regular ones. Phone (1-2) -> onsite (4-5 rounds) -> offer or team match or maybe another call if you have high yoe
