Hi, I have received an offer from Walmart Global Tech, Emerging tech. And wondering is it safe to switch to Walmart at this time of recession, layoffs. Can walmart folks tell if there's any speculations of layoffs in Global Tech, Emerging Tech? Anything being talked in All Hands meetings or senior folks hinted at cost cuts? New TC: 250k #tech #walmart #walmartlabs #layoffs
Nothing is ever transparent in Walmart, so it is anybody's guess. All depends on the quarterly results. Historically layoffs have not been severe on the engineering side.
Layoffs are imminent right after the holidays. Walmart doesn't want to rock the boat during the period of most revenue generation, but layoffs at the first opportunity after that. It's a usual cycle at Walmart, some years it's a silent layoff, every few years it's a big one, and this one could be the biggest.
I reckon the supply chain issues and high inflation eat into the margin but you can't raise price of good due to business model
Leaving a job if you are in good terms with management and have good record of performance puts you at higher risk unless your team/org product could be completely laid off. Companies extend offers in good faith but there is no guarantee how things will be in your division in 6 months. You have to go in and ramp up as fast as possible to shield yourself and would be relying on some of the existing employees to be low performers. Even then it depends on how layoff are conducted and who calls the shot. Move with caution. Just my opinion.
Did you end up taking it?
Did you join finally ? Final TC?
Tc
TC?
Why would they offer if they would be laying off in that unit?
Meta onboarded folks on Mon. Just to be let go 2 days later. Who knows in this economy.
