So I’m currently interviewing for Walmart Global Tech and it’s going well. I think I may get an offer but I’m not sure they’ll be able to math my current TC. Currently I’m at $250,000 salary and 180,000 worth of equity that will vest next year if I stay at my current company. That would put my 2024 TC at $430,000. On average I’ve been receiving a 5% raise annually at Squarespace (my current gig) and roughly $100,000 - 130,000 stock refresher (vesting quarterly) every year. Past 2024, my TC is not guaranteed but roughly $400,000 TC is a good average of where I’ll be over the next few years (give or take a little) if I remain where I am today and continue to get the same raises and equity grant refreshers over the next few years. From looking at levels.fyi it looks like Walmart Global Tech pays much less, so I’m trying to get more confirmation here. Any insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Also, any comments on the company culture, work life balance, etc, would also be welcome. Thanks! #walmart #globaltech
Role at Squarespace ? EM or Senior EM ?
EM, L6
Depending on location, Walmart will come at <200k base, some x% bonus, same x% new hire equity(total for 3 years) and same x% rsu refreshers(granted every year and vested 1/3 or 1/4 every year). that x is 20/25 i think. Example, assuming 200 base and x is 20. Year 1 will be 200+40(bonus)+1/3*40(new hire RSU) , Year 2 will be 200+1/3*40(new hire rsu)+ 1/3*40(refresher) This is general structure, unless they changed in past year
That seems to be awfully low!
well, problem is that most think that RSUs are a birth right.
What’s your level OP? TC is high for SqSp so you’re probably pretty senior there?
I’m an L6 EM. Squarespace gives very nice refreshers, I’ve gotten 120,000 in equity refreshers every year for the past 3 years. I also usually get 5-7% raise (without promotion) They pay better than most people realize (at least before the industry wide layoff crisis)
Refreshes vest over four years right? So after four years there, that’s 120K / yr.
Yeah, Walmart pays about half that... remember "always low prices"
Why would you want to come to Walmart? It’s a glorified IT shop
Very high end X5 offer would be 200 base + 20% bonus + sign on (~120k for 2 years) + new hire ~130K(vested for 3 years) + annual RSU (80 k vested 3 years). Good thing at Walmart is you get a guaranteed refresher at each level if you perform well. For X5 it’s 80K.
120 sign on😲
120 sign on is likely peak 2022 from faang. Nothing close to that this year for x5, let alone x6
OP - did you get an offer ? Please update.

I personally don’t think Walmart would be a good move. I would suggest looking at other tech focused companies. Is TC the only reason you’re looking for a change? Do you like it at sqsp?
No, TC is not why I’m looking to leave. I’m looking for a better team with higher priority projects and Squarespace doesn’t have any opportunities right now. I actually interviewed at Block, passed the interview with “strong feedback” per the recruiter and then layoffs happened and the roles closed. The recruiter told me sorry, if a role opens up I’ll let you know and I haven’t heard back. So I’m moving on to other potential opportunities
We never had any layoffs. May be the positions were just closed. I don’t know if Walmart would still be a good choice in terms of higher priority or interesting projects.
