Hi there, I have an offer from Walmart - IN3 Data Scientist role with ad tech data science team. Salary is 25LPA fixed + 5L bonus + 3.75 L stocks Salary offered by Oracle is 24 L fixed + retirals + 8.75L stocks (4 year vesting) (IC3 position) Team in Oracle is fully based out in US (nearly all 4 of them are MIT grads) and I will be the first hire in India. This team is responsible for Data Sciences in Oracle’s product offering for retailers. I’m having a hard time in deciding as Oracle has a better brand value in terms of resume as well as my team itself, but hikes in India are miserable. Please help me with your inputs and suggestions in making a decision. Both positions are based out in Bengaluru, India. YOE: 4; Current TC: 20 LPA
What is your YOE ? And do you know the division in walmart ?
My YOE is 4. The team at Walmart is ad tech team for stores and e-commerce. Don’t know the division exactly.
Ad tech is a good/stable team
Ad-tech is a good team
Ad-tech has a clear brand and definitely has advanced ml work and quality production service. However no guarantee that you may not take up some devops or pipeline work or measurement work, the latter is largely “analytics” work.
@Op where did you finally join?
Walmart
Can 100% confirm to you that there's no DS/ML work at Oracle whatsoever. Even when I was hired, I was told about many things, but didn't get a single thing when I joined. Yes they do lie to you and when you go and ask about it, they threaten you about layoffs.
Hey, thank you for responding. Really appreciate your input. Even, I’m more inclined towards Walmart, however the credentials of team at Oracle and the tiny scope to move to the US down the line is giving me second thoughts. Is moving to the US (L1) feasible though?
No no not at all, that practice is hardly there in Oracle, if you want to move to US finally, then try Amazon or Microsoft.
