what are pros and cons of being on unlimited pto? Walmart Labs is switching to this system next year. we have to use up or accrued pto first before we use the new system
Company doesn't have to pay out accrued PTO when ppl leave. You should be able to take a little more than you did in the past.
Yes it does. It's CA law
They do not have to pay out on unlimited plans. That's the whole reason companies are switching. It's a sham
Pros: none Cons: upon quitting you can't cash out your unused PTO, your manager is always keeping track and using it as a metric when assessing you against teammates that use less, there is no way to know what the "real" amount you should take is so you end up feeling you take too much no matter how much you take, company has less govt holidays since you have unlimited, etc, basically unlimited is a trick to get you to take less
We have this at nvidia. It's bullshit. Unlimited means you can take as much as you want, provided your manager approves it. It also means you cannot claim any right to take vacation. No more "i have X days accrued, and I would like to use some." I would bet that most people now take less vacation since we went to "unlimited" mode.
Forcing employees to use up old PTO before unlimited PTO is potentially illegal in CA. There's a thread on slack in the spam channel regarding this.
It's a scam disguised as a bonus. As someone who doesn't really go on vacations I hate it.
Is there something like unlimited pto? Someone ( your manager) is always keeping an unofficial track and may decline once the employee reaches a certain number of pto days ( usually the max number which was given before this switch)
